Could someone answer some questions for me? What I want to know is if the factory headunit is still functional with a car pc installed? I am talking about the type you install with a factory nav hood or the jdm nav hood. I want one, but I also want to use an ipod adapter so I don't always have to transfer music files to the hardrive. Also, I am confused about adding to a car pc bluetooth. Do you have to plug your phone into a dongle or does it automatically pick up the signal? I wouldn't want to buy a portable unit for bluetooth. I want of to be a feature on the car pc so you can access the phone from the touchscreen. Thanks.

Does anyone know if the Samsung Q1 UMPC will be able to be mounted in the factory nav hood so the tilt and open buttons would work? I basically want to buy a car pc which has all the software already installed so all I have to do is fit it. I also want to have a factory look.

Thumbs up

I started a similar project with a CarNetix PSU 1900, Xenarc 1020TSV, and macMini. I'm going to purchase a PSU 2140 and re-do the wiring and am curious as to how you wired your DC-DC regulator for "hot", "ignition", and "pulse". Pics would be great.

Great job!

Hi Chuck,

For hot (I assume we are talking about 12v constant) I ran a line from my distribution block behind my rear seats to the 2140 in the glove box. I ran 4 agw to a distribution block behind my seats to power my amps and pc. For the ignition I tapped the cigarette lighter as it is switched with the ignition. For pulse start I tapped the passenger side tail light as it pulses when the alarm is turned off/on.

If your not running amps in your setup you can use an add-a-fuse to tap for constant 12v and for ignition from the fuse well on the drivers side close to the door. You have to be carefull with pulse start as you can inadvertently start PC when you are not in car, resulting in dead battery .

If you need a little more detail on the wiring check page 1 of this same post thread #21 another member asked for some help and I posted a breakdown there.

Good luck let us now how it turns out.

P.S you can look me up at the mp3car forums under the same name :peace:
