Ive also been having the same problem i wasnt sure wether it was the amp or the speaker itself. Unfortunatly i dont know what the problem is and i didnt want to take the amp apart since i wasnt sure what to loo for. But yea it would be nice if someone knew what the problem is. Any help would be appreciatied.

Where is the connection problem? My passenger speaker always cuts out and now my driver side speaker is starting to cut out sometimes also. Does anyone else know a way to fix this?

Could be a relay problem on the circuit board on the amp

The relay is part #R46-5D3-12

the problem is a relay inside the door amps, mine was cutting out and unless i tapped the amp it wouldnt come back on, the relay is about $3 but im sure its the problem, i thought it was the connection also until i drove around with the panel of and tried wiggling the wires but it is the relay inside the amp

is there a DIY on the relay or is it just a regular relay? I haven't taken off the panel yet, just trying to get a head start...

its pretty easy, theres 4 philips screws holding the door panel in place, and u have to remove the power windows switches, once thats off theres a small silver box beside the speaker. remove that, open it up and u will see a small relay, u can find the actual part number on here, bring it to a electronic repair shop, and they should be able to replace it for u, it cost me $28

I am interested in the speaker. I assume it is the 9" door speaker, correct?

Chalk down another confirmed fix - well not exactly yet... I've got the cutting in and out symptom on my dirver's side door speaker. If I hit the door panel in the right spot it becomes intermittent.

I took the door panel off and verified the relay isn't operating properly by tapping on the amp.... this makes it cut back in for a while.

Now I've removed the amp and will replace the relay. Pretty easy swap for me since my work involves chasing electrons daily in some way, shape or form. If anyone would like me to swap their relay for them, PM me or better yet send an e-mail to gabrod72@yahoo.com. I'd expect you to ship the amp to me for repair in Austin, TX. I'd fix it within two days or so and I could stock some relays if I get enough interest.

While we're at it.. if there's anything else needed for electronic repair and you're confident you've troubleshot to the component level, let me know. I'm not looking for more work as I have a full-time job, but the rates that shops are charging for these repairs is wayyyy too high!!!!!

I put together a DIY and added it in the series 1 audio diy section. Used a $1.67 relay from digikey.

There's an amp in each door. They're not like what you're used to seeing though as these are pretty small - maybe 4"x2" if memory serves me right.

Is the amp mounted behind the speaker or is it
mounted on the back of the speaker. I could not find an amp on my door located beside the speaker like the threads have posted. There is a circuit card mounted on the speaker and was wondering if that was the amp.
Speaker # FE87-66-96XA.
