Ironically I'm not sure if the OP was answered ...

Given what we all knwo about subs therefore, and a given scenario (RX-8 trunk)... which sould play better 2 10W6s or 1 12W7.... and by better I mean vaguely so define the elements whoever can..

the 12 is gonna push and is going to hit lower bass, the 2 10's would be more responsive and yield more quality sound IMHO. I'm looking at putting 2 10's in my 8 (digital design subs....might be the best subs ever) I'm looking at amps right now

Is responsiveness a thing of concern still for newage subs and high qual subs like the W6s ?

If not, then wouldnt that make 2 12s the better bet for the 8...

so i was thinking of putting 2 6 inch subs on the inside of the car (in between the 2 rear seats inside that plastic panel that leads to the trunk)....does that mean that those little subs won't be able to hit those low notes in rap that rattle your seat??

does this mean that for me to get that deep bass sound from rap i need to get 10 inch subs or bigger???

It really come down to what kind of music you listen to. in general
Rock=smaller sub 10" or 8"
Rap or RnB = Larger sub 12" or 15"
Country= suck

10's will be fine with the small interior of the rx8

get an all kicker system. it's hands down the best thing that you can buy. i used to own an L7 12" sub, 750.1 amp, and a made by kicker box. dont try to start mixing brands when buying things. the companies make boxes and subs for a reason. that's to put them together. 1 12 was to loud for me i see no reason why you could need 2 of them it hit the highs and lows perfect.

Just buy a 10" and put it between your seat then put another 10 inch in the trunk.......Check my signature

very neat. and...if some of u guys don't already know, i ended up getting 2 12s. i like em, i put them in a sealed box so its very tight. i got some high quality alpine "S" subs, they are really nice...very accurate for their size.

i'd advise getting them, they are not toooooo expensive.

Im rockin the W1's, its just enough bass to compliment the bose stereo and impress friends (without replacing all the stock components).

Don't know how I missed this topic for so long.... but it's too late for me to really get into it. I'm not reading all those replies.

I just wanted to say that I was faced with this same question when hooking on a system on my boat. I decided more smaller speakers. Just finished it up yesterday. Here's a pic.

A JL 10w6 in a large ported box and a JL 500/1 should give you in my opinion the best of both worlds, high bass output with some accuracy.
