I'd like to upgrade the standard sound system in my rx8. Would anyone recommend the best amps/speakers/subs??
I've been thinking 1 JL 10 inch subs but cant decide what amp and speakers would go well with it. Thanks alot.

"best" is a very relative term so you won't get an exact answer especially when it comes to something like sound. Some people want earth shattering bass and could care less about distortion, others want clean / crisp highs, some people just love the Bose stereo, etc etc

You should do some looking around / searching in this subforum and I'm sure you'll see plenty of different setups.
Here is what I did to my stereo and am loving the results. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/jedis-bose-stereo-upgrade-103771/

There are better systems out there than Bose, in terms of fidelity and esp. cost effectiveness, but as the saying goes, 'no one ever got fired for buying Bose, or Sony, or Cadillac, or .....'

Concur, go the Way of the Jedi, if you can.

Actually, go the way you want, what works for jedi might not work for you. Best adice I can give you is do your homework, don't get gobbled up in the big names either and don't be afraid to check out other brands. I've found several more than adequate brands and heard systems using them that sound far superior to the typical jl or kicker setups out there. There's a lot of newer technology out there as well, different classes of amps, flat subs etc., in the end it's your car, so make sure whatever you do or wind up with you do it because you like it, you like how it sounds/looks/whatever, and you're not just flying blind off forum opinions. Take the time to listen to differences, make sure you stay away from amps and/or subs that sound to good to be true, like a "soundstorm" rated at 4000 watts for like 50 bucks etc. and find a shop willing to take the time to talk to you and show you stuff if possible. Sure you can get stuff off Ebay, but the more people that do that the less local stereo shops/installers we have, plus a lot of the stuff you're seeing on ebay is not supposed to be there, is refurbished, or imitation etc. as a lot of brands don't authorize internet sales unless through a reputable source. I've blabbed on enough, good luck and feel free to pm me if I can help any, I've had several systems in my car and competed or helped compete with others so I know our car a little too well to be honest when it comes to stereo crap.

I just added one JL10W6 and a Phoenix Gold 400.1 amp to my non Bose system.....and I'm extremely impressed with the sound! This was the sub and amp I had in my '04 Dodge Ram and it sounds better in this car. I even changed the Headunit and amped my Polk db series speakerws in that truck and overall this stock system + sub and amp sounds better than that. If you wanted the best possible sound from this sub I'd suggest a JL amp but for the $ the PG Xenon series is a great amp.

There are a lot of systems out there. One question for you is how much are you willing to spend?

Are you going for SPL or SQ?

I run a Hertz sub and components with two Arc audio amps and I lean more to SQ.

It really comes down to what you are going for.

^ nice! Arc had some pretty dope stuff at Sema, thanks to them I met George Barris too. If I wasn't partially hooked up with Vibe, I'd probably run their stuff.

Smile IMO: Upgrade the base sound system

"Best" sound system is a very subjective term. I would say "ideal" sound system instead. I have a base sound system. I am going to upgrade it next week once all components are available. I know a local professional installer from my work. His team will put it on for me at in-house rate. Anyway, the following is my sound system.

1. Head unit - Eclipse AVN726E - 7" DVD/Navi with iPod cable. I read the review on PAS magazine and a few forums on this unit. Some Pros and Cons.
2. Amplifier - Soundstream Ref4.400 - 4 channel class A/B hybrid amp. I prefer quality than quantity of sound level.
3. Speakers - MB Quart Premium component speakers PVI268 front & PVI269 rear - I have had MB Quart speakers before on my 88 RX7 10th AE. I hope it will still live up the quality expectation these days.
4. Battery - Kinetik HC1400 - High current car audio battery. It should provide better current flow. I will upgrade the "Big three" as well for better power supply and ground.
5. Metra Dash Kit

I also pick up some TLC such as Monster Cable Amp kit & speaker cable as well.

Perhaps I will get HKS CAMP2 for monitoring an additional information through iPod A/V input channel of Eclipse head unit.

So, what system is in your RX8? Happy Holidays...

heh funny talking about non big names, my dayton 10 pounds crazy hard and incredibly accurate, but there was alot of port tunning and other little details to make the best of it (this sub sucks in sealed, but maybe for small enclosures), some good audio forums out there if u look around, also careful of the little things, had a sosche loc then replace it with audio control , drastic change in quality

Does the Kinetik HC1400 fit in the stock battery box and cover??? Also would the 1400R be a better fit it seems like the reverse polarity would keep the stock wiring in place.

I can vouch for focal i have a set of K2Ps and they are by far the loudest and cleanest components i have ever heard, the best thing to do is hear it yourself and find out what you like. If you are talking components but if you are buying a sub stick with alot small companies such as DD, AQ, Audiopulse, RE and the list goes on and on. Also you need to think if you want something that looks nice and sounds nice. A box has to be tuned not only to a sub but the cabin of a car also plays a very large role in performance. Really do your homework and look into a man called PWK designs, i have one 12 in my car at the moment but it sounds like 2 15's,the designs cost 50 bucks but it will be the best money you have every spent i garentee you will be more then pleased.
