Has anyone had any first hand experience with the triangle shaped subs?

I'm not looking to set off car alarms 2 blocks away, but I'd like to at least be able to feel a decent punch in my back.

I've read a few bad reviews but no one offered up their amp specs and settings. With so many morons out there I can't trust them to have a system set up correctly.

 

If you're trying to go for the "rotor" look, then go for it. But execute it well, so it doesn't have to be explained to people who look in your trunk.

As for the subwoofers themselves, they're not garbage. Just kind of a poor idea. The triangle shape doesn't exactly maximize cone area. Plus it forces all your customers to make their own box. If you really wanted, I'm sure you could get Zen enclosures to just not cut holes in one of their boxes, then cut them yourself upon arrival.

 

That was the plan. I was hoping to get an uncut box from zen and cut it. Not planning on showing off to people, just wanted the rotor look for my own amusement. It would compliment the rotor accents well IMO

 

Pretty sure the current models have dual 6 ohm voice coils. Means three of them on a 1 ohm stable amp would be the way to go. In an orientation like this:

As was said, I'd also lay down some triangular shapes elsewhere in the trunk. Maybe a custom storage lid for the dip in the trunk with some rotary work. Replace it with a piece of plexi with a rotor etched in it. Something...

 

I was at the car audio place yesterday getting something fixed and I saw these beauties. They're "flat" subwoofers only 2.5 inches deep. I thought they would fit perfectly in that small indentation in the floor of our trunks. Not sure if you could fit 2 of them in there as they're a massive 13.5 inches across lol. So if you're looking to conserve trunk space and make it look nice instead of having some giant box in your trunk, these might be worth looking into.

That indent in the trunk is almost exactly .8 cubic feet, which is the recommended volume for one of those subs. The only real problems are sealing and price. I'm not paying that much for a sub.

 

The real problem with "spare tire" enclosures is that they take up all the effective space in the trunk.

JL equipment is overpriced. Good stuff. But you're paying for the name.

That looks like a zen box and rack. I'm going to get the rack. Not sure on the triangles yet. Wish they were 4 ohm DVC. I want a 2 sub setup and don't want to push the amp too much using 2 of the 6 ohm. Running a 2 ohm amp on a 1.5 ohm load might not heat it too bad though... decisions
