Back of fuse box?

How do I remove the plastic trim piece around and behind the interior fuse box. I need to tap 12V and route some wires, and want to access the back of the fuse box.

I can't find any screws or snaps. I don't want to pull too hard, not knowing where it is held in place.

Thanks!

1. remove the dead pedal via 2 10mm nuts
2. pull up the rubber weather trim on the doorsill beside the fusebox access
3. pull up the black plastic scuff plate
4. the trim piece is held by 2 popout pins and a guide pin, you just pull out gently but forcefully to remove it
5. from the outside (beside the fuse access, and under the scuff plate) the plastic piece has an extension that hook under the rubber trimming, you need to lift it away to release the plastic piece completely.

Yes, to the left of the dead pedal (US cars). I can remove the front cover, obviously, to change fuses. However, I need to tap into the back of it and run some wires. The plactic trim seems to run from the door jam to the 'dead pedal', and just above the fuse box on the top.

Once it is removed, I can reach 12V and chassis gnd without breaking my neck.

There is a bolt on the dead pedal, I thought about removing the pedal to see if it holds the plastic trim in place.

Wedge 357,

OK Thanks, I think I understand 90% of this. Just a few clarifying quesitons...

Where are the clips and pin?

Do I pull the front (dead pedal end) out first?

Do I disengauge the hook by just giving it some slack and sliding it out, or should I rotate the trim piece somehow?

Thanks!!!

they are behind the plastic piece don't worry they just come out with the plastic when you pull it out (they are all on the bottom half).

yes

no, you'll see what i mean once you pull out the scuff plate and the rubber weather strip (don't forget this) the rubber trim hides the hook portions of the plastic you need to remove.

sorry I describe them aas hooks but they may be called differently.

Thanks!!!
let me know

Once you get back behind that fuse block, you'll be close to one of the primary wiring harness chassis grounds. I added an additional terminal strip to that same fused 12V circuit, for my radar detector installation. The attached picture shows where I spliced into the 12V wire, and the bolt that secures the ground lug to the chassis. Un-screw this bolt and you can pull the lug and its four attached ground wires clear enough to do a splice/tap into one of the wires. You couldn't get a closer chassis ground than this.

Hey, that's a good idea! I can pretty much use that set up if I want to add other bling inside the car. :D
