Audio Install
Since a lot of people are talking about audio and ICE and such, i decided to make this thread. Any ideas about what you going to do for audio or any ICE are welcome posts.
There has been alot of discussion of the HU and the theorized high possibility of being difficult to replace. Hopefully the whole middle (in the chrome-ish circle) just pops out, which it probably does, although cutting that stuff may be neccessary. once again, any ideas are welcome.

Just to keep in mind, the stereo controls on the car are tied into the center console display, thus making removal and/or upgrade more painful should you choose to do it.
However, it is my hope that Mazda decides to give us good preamp and RCA jacks and such so that if we decide to upgrade, the HU doesn't need to be swapped and instead you can simply plug in amps and new speakers and use the factory headunit for controlling them. I think its good because I don't want to lose my steering wheel controls

Steering wheel controls can be integrated into alot of aftermarket head units, but the BOSE systems have been the worse for integrating aftermarket items with it. Be prepared for the worse.
P00Man, defince "ICE" for me, please. Is that suppoda be In Car Entertainment, or sumthin' else?

Yeah, bose generally doesnt have the audio-upgrader in mind when they put a syustem together for a car. Hopefully they didnt just throw wha5tever into the rx-8.
But the steering wheel controls can be easily incorparated into the uhhhhhhh install

Don't get more than one good sub. Two subs is just way too much bass.

It all depends on taste and tuning. Im thinking 2 10inchers in a nice box hidden somers, or seperate subs stealthily installed along with a good amp, probably going to be alphasonic subs and a US amps amp. maybe a couple more speakers possibly an new HU.

Right now I have two JL Audio 10" .... For the RX-8 I might consider 3 x 8", 2 x 10" or maybe 1 12" woofer.. depending on space and how the car "sounds"

I'll probably be happy with the stock system, as I heard the Mazda6 and it's not bad.
I run right now, two 12" Polk Audio subs, 1200 watts of power from two Rockford amps (600.4), Infiniti Kappa 5x7s in front with adjustable tweeter and Infiniti Kappa 6x9s in the rear with adjustable tweeters.
Needless to say, my car gets really loud and stays crisp.. I just want something good, not great.. it will be the one thing I miss from my Millenia but after everything else I don't think I'll be dissapointed

Well I've heard the Mazda6's sound and I don't feel it's worth upgrading because of the headache it would be.
9 speakers in the RX-8 with decent power are fine for me. The sub hits clean, but not too deep because that gives me a headache. I personally look for clarity and volume levels more than anything else, not too much bass (just enough to complement the music), and the Mazda6's stereo does that in spades for me.
Sure, I will miss the super crisp highs I get out of my Millenia now, but there is a tradeoff in getting a car that I will enjoy a lot more.
However Quick, my brother will be taking ownership of my car so unfortunately the amps will stay

Some HU's such as Kenwood can control some center console display so you may be able to control the display with certain head units. (You guys probably knew this anyway sorry if you did)
