I think there are better NAV systems coming out aftermarket that are much cheaper. Magellen and Garmin both make color screen nav systems with the entire US on them, voice command, etc. For abour $1200 on Amazon.com. Also XM is coming out with real time traffic updates on their NAV systems, which is really the schtit!

Sorry to hijack this thread. Didn't want to start a new one, its kinda stupid question:
Does the nav system add a lot of weight on the vehicle? Can anyone here make a guess?

I thought I'd weigh in on this since the half of the interior of my car is in the house right now as I rewire my AVbox for a better install and hookup a modded xbox server...into the Nav screen

First thoughts on how difficult it will be...
1.the actual NAV dvdunit will be easy since it is just a box...personally if I were you DO NOT install it where the factory installs it...if you have the length for the wiring install it in the trunk hidden...since how often do you change discs? Maybe once every two years
2.the rest of the install isn't necessarily difficult...but it will be TIME CONSUMING let me stress this some more...it could take DAYS to complete even for an experienced installer
a.reasons for this are mentioned in posts above but there are other little things to consider...the wiring harnesses are HUGE and thick and they have to be layed in the center console...but not just under the first panel...you will have to remove the entire bracket system...in otherwords stripping down the center console to metal...which will take a while plus there are so many pieces you will not remember them all
3. THe nav unit...is decent but not amazing...I've used it to find something maybe three times in the past 6months...I always have video running through it...whether it is a concert, a movie, or just mp3 listing from a dvd player (which I just got rid of for the modded xbox)
4.THE CONTROLLER SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED WHERE THE FACTORY ONE IS...if you have a stick shift you will definitely bump it here and there...it will drive you nutz...the only way to install it where the factory one is is if you recess it into the console about half and inch which unfortunately you would have to custom make...beside usually it is my passengers who are running the unit and so I'd rather use a remote which I can get from Thew...and will get eventually
5. don't worry about the GPS antenna...after removing the back seats and center console you can run the antenna wire down from the rear under the window and the antenna is easy to install
6. Probably the hardest part will be grounding it properly since there are SO MANY points where interference could enter

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER
1.you will have to get another device to get video into the nav...it is expensive but I don't think that matters to you anyway since you just bought the whole NAV thing for an ARM and a LEG (unless youstole it :p)
2.Question is do you really need the NAV? or did you just want the retractable screen holder? cause if so just sell everything else and install the that...and put in a higher resolution screen that takes VGA and video inputs...a lot simpler...ALTHOUGH I must say the NAV's screen is very high quality which was only apparent to me when I hooked up the XBOX through the S-Video and was playing Sould Calibur 2 on it

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY GOOD LUCK! and TAKE PICTUReS!

Yes, definitely take pictures as you go, each step of the way.

I have the OEM Nav system and I really like it. I end up using it maybe once a week. The best part, IMO, is that it turns down the radio volume when the voice comes on to tell you, "In a half mile, right turn..." The voice came in VERY handy when I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood, in heavy fog, and didn't have to look at the screen for the next turn. With the heavy fog I would have been totally lost.

Search functions aren't as good as MapQuest, but they're still pretty good. The controls are a little goofy and take getting used to. There may be better after-market systems, but when you're trying to integrate them with other systems in the car, you might run into uncharted territory.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes (good and bad).

truemagellen Thank you For that :D

ok well i just lay' d the stuff on the floor and this is the WHOLE weirs that run under the dash bored and throw out the car.

now i see this am thinking it is going to be hard and then again not really that hard what i am basically going to do is replacing the whole harness' in the car to convert it to NAvi and Original Just like the factory :D about the antenna their is a wire you connect to the rear and a receiver so the back window dose not have to be touched.

what i have to do is Take out the Front seats back seats center Peace and the Head Unite is what i figured i have to do and the harness' under the Dash well i didn't figure an Easy way for it yet but hopefully Soon i Will :D
