there is a way, but it involves many leds soldered to the circuit board... i took it apart this weekend, 'cause i want to do the same thing. I'm going to get a used stereo somewhere and try to start working on swapping out those amber leds to blue ones and see how it turns out... it might be a couple weeks until i get around to it, but it's not going to be that easy... i'll post something as i get it done

Or a person could try a colored gel to change the color.

example would be a blue gel to make the display purple.
