Anybody tried this Stereo upgrade?

http://corksport.com/store/category/...-interior.html

anybody tried this yet? I want to replace the factory unit so bad with maybe a Pionner Nav system with DVD. but Mazda is so stupid over the aftermarket video part.

I saw someone posted about this part but no one seems to reply to him.(maybe he posted at the wrong part of the forum)

anyway, anybody heard about this or perhaps have it installed ?

Thanks

It looks nice, and I would really live to have an aftermarket stereo, but it looks like this kit would require you to purchase a stereo unit that was exactly the size of the cutout, which could be difficult. Not to mention it's almost $500.

I am looking at doing this same mod. I just got a pioneer AVIC N2 Nav system and am trying to find a decent way to put it in. Have you found a kit like this anywhere else? $500?!?!?!?!? Not was I was looking to spend on a stereo kit. I have heard that there may be a new kit coming out soon. If I find out more I will let you know.

This is the only dash kit that is available. Your only other option is to make a custom fiberglass kit like I did. The problem with both units is that you climate controls for the display are actually run through the stock radio. If you do either conversion then you lose the display unless you can find someone that can pull the circuits out of the radio and build it back into the car.

I have spent alot of time working on these mods over the past few months. I took out the factory screen and replased it with the new Alpine touch response 7" screen. With the Alpine hub I was able to add navigation, DVD, CD Changer, Sirius with Nav-traffic, bluetooth, and full speed ipod - ALL TOUCH SCREEN

At this point there was no need for the factory radio so I removed it and built a custom tinted plexiglass face with additional LED guages in back of it for AMP temps and some other items. This also game me room to put my push button start in the center.

FYI - If you look at all the specs between Alpine and the pioneer units on the market you will see that there are huge advantages with the new Alpine line. Not to mention, their new amps and R-Type subs kick ***

Unfortunately by car is in the shop for another week so you will have to wait to see my latest pics.

Make sure you remember to do some research on the climate controls before you purchase anything. If someone is going to attempt to do it themself then let me know and I will post detailed instructions on how to do it

As far as the Face plate goes, if it has a double din opening, aren't all double dins the same dimensions for sake of compatability with the face plates for each particular vehicle? $500 is indeed steep, but if it is the only one that will work, what are you going to do?

I would be interested to see some pics of your faceplate MSTYLES. Perhaps the stereo store I am in communication with now can make something custom as well since they specialize in total custom installations.

I am looking to put a Pioneer Avic-Z1 in my 8 and use this dash kit. I want it all to look factory, ie. I want the faceplate to have the Piano black finish. He said he can make it happen for $400-$500 on top of the cost of the faceplate. This sounds outrageous to me as there can't be more than $10-$20 in paint if that much and a few hours labor.

Actually the stereo guy I am using says he called the company and it comes with all that is needed for the Climate Control display to still work! Really cool to know nothing is lost by trying to put in a nice aftermarket stereo, Like the Pioneer AVIC series! I am personally going with the AVIC-Z1 which has the Bluetooth along with Navigation, Nav traffic and Sirius and a 7" Touch Screen. Might be $500, but if it indeed does what it boasts, then it is worth every penny IMO Since I have a Shinka and NAv was not an option from Mazda.....

$400-$500 for them to make the face plate piano black! That's crazy. I just had my shift gate done at an auto paint shop for $48. it looks great.

$4-500 to custom build a new bezel I can totally understand. As one who has done this, it is much much more than a couple of hours of work and some paint.

I think it was $400 - $500 on top of the cost of the face plate. The plate cast close to $500 but it is not in piano black like sillybastard wants. To charge another $500 (total $1,000) is crazy.

Unfortunately the Shinka is not avail with a Nav system from Mazda, so I have to imprevise. Plus the AVIC-Z1 comes with Bluetooth for my Cell and links my contacts from my phone into my Deck. Not to mention a ton of other features that rock!

Exactly right Midifer. It would be a total of $1000 which I thought was a bit nuts too. I will talk to this stereo guy and see if maybe I need to find a new one. I don't mind paying for premium work, but I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. Thanks for the input!

It would be worth it to check around. Some good shops have someone or do their own fab work. You could get a custom face.
