I was at my dealer a while ago for some service work... he mentioned that someone had brought in their 8 with melted headlamp covers because they upgraded from halogen to HID. Do you have to do something special to install the HID units? (I already have HID, so I'm just curious if he was right or not).

It was probably a cheap quality kit that melted those headlamp covers. I've heard of aftermarket HID bulbs shattering inside housings, shorting electrical systems, and other debocals. I feel I made a good choice with these McChullochs. Some guys over at the Subaru boards use these, and there's not alot of bad wrap on 'em. Over all, the quality of the ballasts, wiring, and bulbs are very good.

Here's a link to the pics of the bulbs on: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/hids-pt-2-a-49819/

HID's actually burn cooler than Halogen.

He might have been refering to some 100 Watt type, HID-like bulbs. Unless you put the HID bulb right on the plastic it shouldn't melt the fixture.

Hey does anyone have any suggestions on where to place the ballast for the hid conversion kit, I just received mine and am dying to put them in. Also what did you guys use to adhere the ballast to wherever you decided to place it? Please help.

Hi an old timer here, I have xenon headlamps but would like them just a bit brighter. Can anyone suggest which bulb or replacement? Not interested in blue(color) just want to see the road better at night. Just so many on the market. Brighter yes. Thanks.
