TX 04 RX8 Ipod/Iphone

New to this forum... So apologize i did a search and could not find nothing.. I have a 04 RX8 with Bose system and I am trying to find the best adapter to be able to integrate my Iphone/Ipod. I have read some and you may still be able to use the steering controls.. just trying to see if any of you have it and what would be the best option. Dont really want to replace the whole heaad unit and do not want to go throught he antenna on a FM station.

One VERY important exception that should be mentioned:

Mazda RX-8 04-08 (*, radio firmware v9.55 or later /v10.1 and v9.81 not supported/)

The XCarLink Adapter has the same firmware requirement as well.

To find out which firmware vision you have, press and hold "TEXT" and "1" for a few seconds while the radio-FM is on.

.

Just as long as you have 9.55 or better it will work, Bose system or not. Get the XCarLink as it's much better with a Bluetooth option. It uses the external CD changer "port" on your deck.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead or to ask a question which was probably answered, but this is like my 10th thread trying to find this answer:

On these units, if I use an IPHONE, does it look out the screen? Or does it work kinda like an iHome, you can use the screen fully to navigate into the iPod, listen to Pandora, go here go there. Or does it lock the screen saying "This Device is Connected"

Sorry again and thanks in advance!

no it doesnt lock out the screen
if you do go to the ful radio controll (buttons 2-6) then it LOCKS OUT THE IPOD PART OF THE IPHONE, so when you open iPod on the iPhone, it says the device is connected, but you can use the rest of the phone just fine

BFTD (again).... Please dont flame me for this...

But, am I the only person on the planet with a firmware >9.55?? I had been putting off adapting an ipod/iphone for some time... but now that I am finally finished with car payments, I have a little extra money for toys. I've seen the threads about firmware upgrades but they are all from 04 so not sure how up to date the service is. Does MazdaParts (or anyone) for that matter still do it? If someone could point me in the right direction.

I've messaged a few listings on ebay for a 2005+ HU but either they dont seem to know the firmware or they are asking $350 for it... etc.

Thanks in advance

Firmware less that 9.55 you mean? I'm another (9.53). I have the OEM adapter that worked well with my old nano. Then I got an iPhone 4. I bought a Griffin Firewire to USB adapter so my phone would charge, and an Arkon dash vent phone mount. It works perfectly, aside from the fact that it locks the iPod screen out so I have to control it using the steering wheel/HU controls. I'm hoping someone will come up with a crack for that. Also, no text support but if I hit the top button to put the phone in standby, when I hit the centre button it shows me the track name and album cover. The music fades out when I get a call (my wife loves this feature lol) and the speakerphone works well enough that I don't need my BlueAnt speakerphone I set up for my Blackberry. Although the BlueAnt announces the name of the caller and works well for voice dialing as well.

Plus I can check email and the web on the go!

Hmm... any chance you can link me in the right direction. I wanna take a look. I searched but most of the adapters (when typing OEM adapter) still come back saying 9.55 or later.

Thx

There has been debate about whether the OEM adapter works on 9.53, but it does (this is the one available from your friendly neighbourhood Mazda dealer). It is the only one that works with 9.53 (not including the various direct wiring hacks).

The Griffin adapter is here:

The mazda adaptor is subpar. I still haven't figured out what it is trying to tell me through the display.

My GROM arrived yesterday, I installed it last night (tried to get a better picture of that damn magic bolt. It's a BITCH to get to and I did indeed drop the damn bolt in spite of magnetizing the ratchet.) and I could not be happier. Well... a little happier.

My stereo comes with a Disc Up and Disk Down buttons, according to the manual I should be able to have more than 5/6 playlists but it seems to have a hard time going into advanced mode and when I get there I only see 5 of my playlists. I believe the problem is that I did not put a number ahead of the playlist names (which of course instead of working I am doing now).

But my question is with a 2004 RX-8 with the Bose system Single CD radio... how many playlists, given they are numbered correctly, can I actually have? Anyone max it out? Right now I only have 11 playlists but, un-numbered, I was only able to see 6. I know that not having them numbered I can have unexpected results but would love to know if someone has the actual number.

Thanks guys!

FL iPod Integration Module works with iPhone 3GS and RX-8 2011

The dealer just installed the iPod Integration Module and it works with my iPhone (even though it's officially "not supported" by Mazda). They installed the
F197 79 CFZ module and the harness kit (C9F5 V6 029) for the navigation model.

My iPhone (3GS) iOS is updated to 4.3.5.

I connect my iPhone in the glove compartment, and can control it through the navigation screen. I can see all of the data about the tracks as I can on my iPhone (playlists, artists, songs, podcasts, etc.). I can also control changing tracks and volume through the steering wheel. The module also charges my iPhone while the car is running.

It's too bad the Bluetooth wireless connection didn't work, but the iPod integration module works for me and sounds great through the Bose speakers.

I know its been awhile since this post was made but did you ever find out how many ipod playlists the GROM adapter will support? I just installed the adapter on my 2005 RX-8 and could only access the first 6 playlists on my 6th generation 8GB ipod nano.

Mazb3

Does anyone know if the grom mazb3 or any other Bluetooth adapter will actually work with 9.53 firmware? I've tried finding replacement head units but none have the actual firmware version and that's a bit of extra money I want to avoid.

adding usb drive

So if my RX8 has the Sirius radio hooked up, can I still put in an adapter to get a USB hook up for a thumb drive?
