it is called an SS hood scoop, you can find them on ebay for cheap, as you can see in the pic, it is just an add on to an oem hood, check this carbon fiber one!

ty for the post "swoope" .....lol

I will install the black OEM hood with hood scoop on my titanium grey RX-8 and take some photos. If you all don't mind the color contrast...I will post up images tomorrow.

As for CF hood scoop, it is special order only. I don't have any picture to show...sorry.

looks very good... i wonder if it could be made to funtion???? as in is enough structure there to cut an inlet and it still be strong enough??

and yes i know you would have to cut a hole in the hood.

btw price?

I think it could be made to function if there comeone makes a custom intake, im assuming there is enough space under the hood for it since its on the concept which is confirmed to have a SC....how much do you think it would cost to make a custom intake swoope?

the only think i think you could do with it is just for underhood cooling...

i guess someone could try to put an intercooler under it... but the plumbing would he horrible.... if a sc or turbo were designed aournd it yes...

I'm pretty sure on the concept it is used to direct air over a top-mounted intercooler, sort of like the old Turbo IIs or the WRX/STi cars.

so how much would it all cost in order to make this hoodscoop actually do what its supposed to do? $1000? $2000?

For it to be "functional" there doesnt necessarily have to be an intake there... it doesnt HAVE to be a ram air duct into an intake... it could be a ram air duct which draws in cool air to cool the engine bay down...

With a cut-out on the hood under the scoop... it is "functional" as it is raming air into the engine bay....

Like swoope is saying... its just a matter of if theres enough structure to allow a cut-out of the middle of the hood that size...

You are getting it all confused..... the hood scoop IS the hood scoop... its function is to ram air into the engine bay or direct air into a top mount intercooler or sth... Forced induction... turbos....Supercharges....intercoolers... thats not part of what the hood scoop is supposed to do..

technically it would cost you NOTHING to make this hood scoop "function like its supposed to"..........just take a saw and cut a hole under the scoop which would then create a direct route to the engine bay.........

You have to be careful, adding a scoop thats not going through an intercooler core of sometype is pretty pointelss. I will just give you a pressure zone under the hood.

Looks pretty good, i think the white MS one is lightly more flattened out. Has one one bought this yet and installed it as a color not just black?

It will go thru the engine bay and probably out the side vents behind the front wheels. At least the airflow goes somewhere and won't create a drag on top of the hood.

The one thing I didn't care for when I bought my RX-8 was the stock hood. Love this design and I will buy this hood scoop. I am also interested in having vents on the side of the hood also. I believe that would give it the final touch.
