I just priced up the stock Mazda strakes here in NZ, and the price came out to well over $600 Kiwis (~US$400)!!!!

Straking has been around since the 70's.

I was reading the latest issue of Automobile Magazine and the trend is toward having and emphasizing fender vents and strakes. Another part of the whole retro theme currently awash in the industry.

I personally like the aluminum plated fender vents. I am more ambivalent on the strakes and the aluminum look fuel door.

I am thinking of getting the aluminum plated fender vents from www.rx8strakes.com for my BB. They are $99. I just shot them an inquiry about the durability and if there was a warranty and return/exchange policy.

Now I have to get that rubber goo off the car. I have tried several products, and so far no luck.

I tried bug and tar remover this morning and it failed. I'll get off sooner or later. Now, what to do with the strakes?

+ on the WD40. It's safe, cheap and everyone should have a can in their garage.

Why don't you sell the strakes in the FOR SALE forum? I'm sure someone will want them.

Well, the WD40 worked and didn't work. It only removed a little of the marks. These marks are really on there.

I had to vote to dump the strakes. Not a huge strakes fan- makes the car look too much like a Mercedes or something- not my personal tastes. Of course some people are into them. Just your personal tastes I guess

It took a powered buffer and compound to remove them, They etched into the clear coat.

[NOTE TO SELF]Never put strakes back on the car again.[/NOTE TO SELF]
