I'm using these bulbs from V-LEDs in my parking lights, and a similar bulb that they no longer sell in my corners:

Yeah, stock HID bulbs are 4300K. Usually, 6000K and 8000K are the typical colors for aftermarket bulbs. PIAA makes a 6600K bulb, but it's VERY spendy like most PIAA stuff.

lol seriously. I tried asking the king of HID stuff..rotary rasp.. in PM a question about some of the new 6000k and 8000k that's out there but he hasn't responded yet. I've seen on the Japanese Mazda site when you order your new RX 8, you can optionally get 6000k or 8000k.. I was just wondering if it's as bright as our stock lights since our stockers are the brightest right now. Anyone else know?

If you have HID headlights, then yes, you have to replace them with HID bulbs. The bulb type you will be looking for is D2S. You can find them many places, just depends on how much you wanna spend. Search ebay. I recomend Philips. That's the same brand as the OEM bulbs, so they are high quality. My Philips Ultinons (6000K):

Yes, this is exactly what I want, bright white with a tint of blue.
Did you get your parking lights at v-leds? They match the headlights perfectly!
Nice setup.

Ain't trying to hijack or bring back the dead....but. I've recently smoked my headlights, and have stock HIDs. The car is an 04, and I just want improved light output (though the light already shines out well enough).

Because I know that HIDs wear out after a while (stock is 3000 hours correct), I'd feel better having brand new bulbs that put out as much or more lumens ( I believe stock is 3200lm) as stock HIDs. I do not want blue/purple color.

I need bulbs that will spread the most light around my headlamps, remember, lens are smoked, so color doesn't mean anything to me. I need these to be bright during the day, yes I turn my headlights on during the day.

I will look for the lowest color temp possible. I want quality bulbs. Now could anyone be nice enough to help me with this question?

If I go "ion yellow" in color, will this technically make my light out put greater/brighter than the stock 4300k/3200lumen output? Not many HID websites post the lumen output, and that is all that matters to me.

I need to be seen, and SEEEEE!

Hey thanks all. I'll keep searching old threads for answers though.

I don't mean to sound like an ***, but if you can't see (or be seen) maybe you should take the tint off your headlights. I'm sure it's also making your turn signals hard to see. The stock 4300K bulbs are the brightest that you can get, and new bulbs aren't going to help as HID bulbs should last a very long time without loosing any output. 4300K is about as close to pure white as you can get, if you add color to that by going down in color temp (yellow) or up in color temp (blue) you are really taking away usable light. The only thing that you could possibly do is get a higher power balast. I know they make 55W balasts, but I don't know anything about installation. I do know that it will create more heat and greatly reduce bulb life though.

^-- +1 Aipex is right. There are tons of threads on it too..but long story short and sweet.. if you want brightest..stick to OEM, with a nice and clean headlight unit, polished and well kept. If you want some sort of color to it and retain as bright as possible, 6000k is the next best bet..otherwise the higher the color, the brighter it MAY look..but really..it's darker and bleh.

agreed with the above, since i've created this thread I have installed 8000k's and love them, BUT the light output is compremised somewhat (especially in rain.)

The stocks are your best bet or you can upgrade your foglights to HID's to increase the light output. As for the lights they don't fade light output over time, they're either 100% or 0%.

As of now, I cannot make out a difference between light output. At night, with the lights on, my light is just as visible (even brighter still) than my buddy's who's also got a non-HID rx8.

Light is still perfectly funtional, and I can't really tell a difference as when I was non-tinted. Though I am sure there is. I just wanted peace of mind, because I was under the impression that HID slowly gets weaker and weaker.

So not worth changing light color? Not worth ebaying the OEM D2S made by Phillips? No other bulb that will produce more lumens at the same color temp as stock? Ok, that is fine.

But this ballast thing interests me. How would the RPMS store's "slimeline 55w" ballast/bulb combo fair? More power right? I may go this route. What is stock wattage 35?

Long post I know, but main question here because I may be ordering today. DDM Premium Slimline HID kit from rpmstore.com. If I go 55w, do I need to adjust anything else on the car? Will the stock ballast be easily replaced by this new "slimeline" ballast? Thanks.

brand new to the site quick question!!
'
I recently bought some HIDs from ebay (i know first mistake) and I was sent D2C I was told by the vendor that these will work as well.

Does anyone know if this is true before i take the time to install it seeing as everything on this car requires 30+ mins to install simple things such as radios and headlights!

Thanks!!!

you have the wrong idea about HID lighting.. if they aren't defective from the factory the bulbs will OUTLAST the car, you shouldn't ever need to replace them.
