Roof Scoopes?

Roof Scoopes?
Whats the deal with roof scoops on front engine cars. I see them on rally cars etc, i assume its for cockpit cooling, maybe im wrong. But why do people put them on their street cars?? Are their any for an 8?? pics?? photochops?? I just noticed while playing NFS:Underground

If you are serious about rallying, you strip all the 'excess weight' out.
The aircon has obviously got to go, why stop there, the heater and fan is heavy - then you just cut a hole in the roof for ventilation.
If you keep the heater and a/c, but stick a phony scoop on the roof, you are a 'ricer'.
