If you check it out. the trunk is on an angle. Check it out, there is a slight curve to it, so the emblems look crooked, but are level.

If you do some searching by way of the "search" function, you can find all your answers to the many questions you seem to have.

To answer a few and clarify those that I can remember from reading this thread...

The easiest way to remove the emblems which have mounting posts is:
for the rear, remove the trunk liner to get to the rear of the "MAZDA" and Flying "M". Two of the posts have a push on type fastener that can easily be pryed off. The third post is there for either positioning or absolutely no reason that I can think of. Use a hair dryer if it is not hot out (90 degrees or better) and slip some dental floss beneath the emblem to dislodge the adhesive tape that holds it tight. After going around all the mounting posts, pull the emblem off of the trunk lid. That is the easy part. Filling the holes left behind can be as expensive as $500 from an autobody shop. There are other ways such as the silicone or putting a different badge on it such as those have already done but they are still adding badges or sightly marks.

For the front end, the bumper cover must be removed to remove the emblem. This is a lot easier to do than you could imagine. If you click the RX8Fun banner in my sig line below, you can look in that forum and find the instructions that I made for removing the front end. The Flying M logo removes the same as the rear.

As for painting, these are chromed plastic and the only way to get paint to properly stick to them is to sand the chrome down first as nothing will stick to the chrome straight out. Blieve me, I have tried many times with some center caps that I got from a place by mistake that were fully chromed.

I have a mold that is of the Flying M that I made that I can paint it any color one wants and it goes on with mounting tape that I use that is stronger than the stock tape. I cannot remvove this badge without heating it up very hot as it is on there very secure. My front badge is painted a trim black as I wanted to get away from the chrome on the front of my 8. I am posting a pic of the front with this black Flying M.

VTRX8...if you want to remove the badging correctly. Take your 8 to a good bodyshop. The will pop the badging off, fill in and paint the holes. The cost should be around $200-$300. Don't do this mod in the cheap!! Nothing like paint not matching or holes in the bodywork. Check out BrotherVoodoo's 8. His looks great.

I hope you guys with the "mazdaspeed" emblems follow through and start getting authentic mazdaspeed parts for your 8 soon. IMHO, it's like Honda Civic owners slapping the Type R emblems on their dx trim cars. Just my $0.02.

Is it the RX8 or the Mazda logo that is just stuck on? Or are they both drilled through?

"RX-8" is the only emblem without the posts.

Thanks RA-Eight. What about the Mazdaspeed, does it have posts? If so, do they fit where the Mazda posts are?

Thanks again.

That old school Rabbit emblem he put next to the GTI badging is a nice touch....I'm thinking of using black on all the badging on my 8....it would look a lot better IMO than chrome...not much of a chrome guy these days....

Thanks for all the posts, tips, and pics guys...it'll help.

I painted my emblems black.

I sanded them real good, used 1 coat of Testors primer, 3-4 coats of Testors flat black, then 3 coats of Testors clear coat.

They look great. The hardest part was getting the adhesive on. I used some clear double sticky tape type stuff made by 3M. It was hard to get it cut and applied to the back of the emblems without scratching the paint. If I did it again I would order new emblems from Mazda with the adhesive already on them and then paint.

On another note, I was at a body shop the other day and asked what they would charge to fill the holes and repaint my trunk. He told me they would weld the holes shut and repaint the entire trunk (can't blend this paint) for $150.

I think I might jump on it. He said it would normally be at least $250 and I thought I heard people paying close to $500 for this.

That's a really good price. Wow. How much did they give you for the emblems- just curious?
