RE Amemiya LED Tail lights

Found these tail lights, and while they are quite expensive, I think they look fantastic. I'm just unsure of the difference between the "CF" and "GF" versions. I'm assuming CF means carbon fiber and GF means glass fiber? An odd way of saying fiberglass.

Here are the links, but the pictures are identical and there's a $220 price difference.

GF

CF

If anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

my favorite tail lights for the RX-8.
Honestly I think the listing is just wrong because if you look at japanparts.com they list two versions but it's CF and FRP .

the Carbon ones are great, I have a set but like most Japanese (or any) CF aftermarket part be aware that they usually only have a gel coating on them that will eventually fade or yellow over time when exposed to the elements. I had my shop remove the gel coating and clear coat the CF.
They're not cheap but they do look awfully nice and you'll never have to worry about these filling up with water like the OEM taillights.

Ooh thanks for the info. What is the difference between CF and FRP? I don't know if it's the camera angle or what but the picture of the white RX8 seems to have the taillight surround look a little darker than yours do in the pic. I like that dark look, so maybe it's the FRP version?

Thanks

FRP = fiberglass.
Nah, it's just a crappy picture that I posted makes them look lighter. The description on the japanparts listing even states the picture is of a CF version. I'll see if I can find a better picture of mine

Best I could do on short notice

Oh wow, gonna have to find a shop I can trust with clear coating those lights. I bounce back between AZ and CA, would you recommend a shop? I'm near Edwards AFB, but am willing to travel, would not want to risk the lights getting ruined.

Those look soooo amazing, thank you. I'll definitely get the carbon fiber version.

Would you happen to have any pics of what the lights look like when they are lit or when brakes are applied?

Thanks

sorry just saw this.
I'm terrible about remembering to take pictures of my own car but I probably have something with the lights on. Let me see if I can find anything...

I just found out today they are custom made and take around 4-6 months to make. I just worry a bit about buying such a high dollar cosmetic item, used.

They have finally arrived. With an additional $200 fee, damn tariffs.

It would appear there is some assembly required with these taillights. I've never worked with carbon fiber before. There are some minor scratches on these right out of the box, can scratches be sanded out on carbon fiber?

There appears to be no coating on these whatsoever that I can tell.

I assume the best course of action would be to assemble these, and test fit them to see if they need to be altered/shaped slightly to fit the car, then once that is complete, disassemble, and clear coat all the parts with some sort of UV protective clear, then reassemble and install.

What say you, Jedi? Or anyone else who has dealt with this sort of thing before.

Congrats on the lights finally coming in! (Minus the damn $200)

Yes , definitely test fit everything and make sure they function correctly. I don't have any reason to believe that they wouldn't function correctly, but just in case.

It's hard to tell in the picture if there's any type of gel coating or not, but if you say there isn't then I would definitely recommend getting them clear coated .
The California or Arizona Sun will not be kind to those

I did a quick AI edit with them painted body color and I think that would look SWEET. Insane that they took like 4 years to get, though.
