Personally I like the looks of the first material that you posted and think that the large version in a powder coat black would match the car.

Here's an update as to the production of these.

Once again, I am awaiting molding material that should be here by Friday. I have made molds for the frames but ran out of the RTV rubber for the mounting brackets. I had some mold material ordered over a week ago but the supplier sent the wrong substance by mistake. He just emailed me this evening and has said he put it on 2 day shipping via UPS so I should receive it by Friday. After making the molds for the mounting brackets they will be ready with the exception of the screening material. I am also awaiting two samples of this material that will allow me to make the first production of these. I have a local shop that will powder coat the screen material for $3.75 per screen or $7.50 per set. This will only take a day to do by them. The powder coating will be a semi gloss black so as to match the color of the frames.

The fog light accent strakes will be ready at the same time that these are in production. They will be stand alone or integrated with the oil cooler screens as each will not be required of the other for installation but will go nicely together if so desired. :D

As this stage in product development takes off, I will seek vendorship and publicly be able to advertise on the forum. This process has taken a lot longer than I had anticipated but will occur soon.

As for the side strakes...I am inundated at the moment, I am hoping to once again, catch up this weekend for those of you who have been waiting.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

My, how time flies when you are having to sand strakes. :D Anyway, I got out this week as I was finishing some of the side strakes that will be going out tomorrow, and finished the prelimary molds for the oil cooler screens. What I am about to post are pictures of the finished screens with frames attached uninstalled. I will be installing some on my 8 this weekend and will take finished pics of them at that time. They will be posted on a new thread when I do.

The frame is painted an OEM trim color, which is best described as a semi gloss black. The screen is going to be either black powder coated or sprayed with 4 layers of a black plastic coating that reduces chemicals, is flexible and prevents chipping. Of course, I can always provide bright aluminum screening too for those of you who wish to have a little brightness in your life.

These fit right up against the fog lights and integrate well with their design. The areas that show are only the curved area that butts up against the fog light outer housing. The rest of the frame sits behind the front oil cooler openings. There will be better pics later.

Next week as I am installing them on my 8 this weekend so I can take the pics of the final product. This will allow me to make instructions at the same time. I have the screen material on the way via UPS. The molds are ready and I have already cast a few.

OK, I meant to post these for awhile, so here they are. If you look closely, you can see double the protection... :p

Now I need the screen and grill to protect the radiator...

Thanks Dennis!

D MENAC 7, do you have oil cooler screens for RX-8's that don't have fog lights?

I knew that was going to come up. No, not yet, though. Give me a bit of time and I will do this. It will not be very hard to do, but I will have to build another prototype and then cast another mold. Though, this will be a lot easier than the ones with the fog lights as I will not have to go around the fog light which was the hardest part of all.

The World of Grillework Awaits Us!

Obviously, given the correct materials, D MENAC 7 can create some excellent mountings. Maybe all those who visit this thread can help out by reporting sightings of good grill products that are floating out there "in the wild".

I'd bet, if we could find a grille in size and shape between what D MENAC 7 is using for the oil cooler and the stock radiator, he could mount it to protect our a/c heat exchangers. There is also the matter of the side engine heat vents. There must be someone here who has scoured around the building supply, etc., stores and stumbled across something suitable.

Anything ring a bell? I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled! Good hunting!!

Just noticed you are online, D MENAC 7. Are you viewing the Chinese GP? Pretty good race, so far!

Have you given any thought to the false grillework in the rear valance? I suspect that putting real grilles in there wouldn't serve much of a function, other than be something more to keep clean.

Btw, off topic, but have you seen the rotor shaped rear fog light that JapanParts and Canzoomer have posted? Are they the same part? Do you think it would be very difficult cutting out a proper opening and mounting same in one of the aftermarket valances?

Thanks and keep up the good work!!

A/C Condensor Grille Prototypes

Daytime pics coming today. However, the A/C grille I used a larger diamond pattern. But, the same size diamonds as used in this Oil Cooler Grille can be used for them too. I will try to mount both and take pics.

No, I was in the middle of posting the pics and then heading to bed.

Yes, been working on something but haven't had the time to finish. Below is a mock up of it. It will have attached side strakes because there are two support braces across the fender that have to be covered.

Yes, I have seen it. There has been discussion about that as well as mounting the rear accent along with it in the stock. And, there has been some discussion about making a mount for mouting the front and rear accents on non-stock (MS version) rear and front bumpers. :D

These should be available within a couple weeks at the most. I am obtaining the supplies soon. The installation will require removing the front bumper, as I am sure everyone is used to me saying that by now. The mounting hardware will consist of two stainless steel screws with washers, two mounting clip nuts, two fender bolts and the grille. Both the small diamond pattern and the large diamond pattern will be offered. They will also fit the stock air dam as well as the aero package air dam as pictured. When they are available, both versions will be pictured.
