Moonroof Deflector... less noise or just for show?

Originally I planned on getting my 8 with the deflector, but the model I was looking at didn't have it and after looking at two side by side, I rather liked the cleaner look without it...

However, I use the sunroof quite a bit and was wondering if the noise reduction is worth the hassle of installing/buying it..

The dealer claimed that it was just for looks, but I figured I'd ask anyone who has first hand experience of with vs without it for the actual facts

The cars does a good job without it, I personally don't like the look.

I have the sunroof without the deflector. Not a problem at all. Noise isn't an issue. I have never liked the look of the deflector on any car.

No deflector here either, no noise issues or other reason I would add it.

I took my defector off after a month. Noise didn't change, but I get occasional buffeting of my head that the deflector kept out. The dinky built-in deflector doesn't seem to do much. If you're short or bald, it may not make a difference.
