Just seems like a monsterous waste of money... I mean come on - they look cool when the door's open... I usually drive with my doors closed. And I try not to leave the car parked for longer than, oh, 20-30 seconds before I get in or out - then I CLOSE the door.

How are you supposed to get in and out of the car with those doors - crawl? I don't get the appeal at all - those things will make getting in or out of the car very awkward.
Picture this - you cruise up in your RX-8, park, and raise the scissor doors. The crowd goes "Ooooh, aaaah". Then you try to get out - whack your head on the underside of the door, then half-squeeze / half-crawl out of the car. The crowd goes "BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!" and you feel like an idiot. Yeah, real cool! :p
