Hid Light Suggestions

So I've decided I want to get the HID lights with a more blue tint to them. A friend has a mazda 3 with some hid's that are light to mid blue and I really like them.

My 8 is in a garage in town right now and I'm not 100% sure if I have the HID lights or not on my 8. If I do ? I can just get different bulbs right? If I don't, I have to buy the whole kit?

When I first turn my lights on they are really really white and they slowly fade to a slight yellow tint. There is also a definite line to where my low beams are. Like on the car in front of me, you can tell a straight line of where my lights are. Sound like HIDs to you guys?

Assuming I just need bulbs, what color temp should I get and where is the best place to purchase them. I'm thinking 8000k seems right for mid blue ?

Also I might decide to replace the parking lights while I'm messing with it. Anything special I should know?

^Naw, the GT isn't the only trim that the HID's come with. If you want light to mid blue, 8000k will def. come out to be a little too blue. If you just want a blue tint, go with 6000k-6500k.

My 6000ks are white as well. But different companys use their own scale to rate their respective color temps, so it all really depends on the brand.

I used to have halogen lights, but did the HID conversion and got 6000K.. from my perspective in the car my headlights look white.. from an oncomer's perspective they have blue-ish tint to them. Looks so much better than that dirty halogen color

Here's a comparison of my car when I first changed my side markers and still had my stock parking lights and halogen headlights.

I replaced my parking lights with LEDs to match my side markers and after I converted to HIDs for my headlights they too match my side markers. Oh yeah I bought foglights and replaced those bulbs with LEDs as well.. so everything matches!! Oh so purdy!

In 2004, only the base model had halogens. Sport, touring and GT all had HID. If you have foglights, then you also have HIDs so that's an easy way to tell. Sounds like you have HIDs since halogen bulbs don't have to warm up (slowly change color after turning on).

Remember, the higher the color temp, the lower the light output. If you want really blue, go with 8000K, but know you'll be getting less lumens. If you do all your night driving in a city probably not a big deal. 6000K does have a blue tint to it, especially in the cut off (if you are standing right next to the projector it will look white, but if you back off a bit it will get really blue). I'd say 6000K is the best comprise between looks and output.

I've got Philips Ultinon 6000K bulbs, which are kind of spendy. I picked up mine on eBay for around $160. If you are looking for a cheaper solution, check Apexcone brand at the RPM store:
http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=177

For the parking lights, go with LEDs from V-LEDs. Bulb type 194. They are currenly out of stock of the bulb that I use for my parking lights which have 4 x .5watt LEDs and are REALLY BRIGHT. I had a set of the 3 x .5 watt bulbs too and they are plenty bright also, so I'd recomend those:

Here's a pic of my setup (I've got LED foglights too):

THAT was a helpful post.
Thank you.
I've decided to roll with some 8,000K HID's.
I wanted a pretty blue light.
I ended up ordering them from Xenonlink.com because they were pretty cheap.
I also ordered the LED's for the parking lights from VLED's like you suggested.
I'll post my thoughts on these lights when I recieve them.
Now all I need to decide on is some fog lights.
Thanks again for the help Aipex

And the fogs I can't find on V-leds anymore...

That's what they look like though

If you have a little extra money to spend or want to save up.. I'd suggest going to the rpmstore (check my previous post) and get the slim 35 watt HID kit and just swap your fogs to make them HID fogs instead of LEDs.. I plan on doing that once the LEDs in my fogs burn out (gives me time to save up some moolah) Rotary Rasp has an extremely detailed guide on how to convert your fogs to HIDs

V-LEDs is currently out of stock of the H11 foglight bulbs. If you are interested I'd email them and let them know so they are sure to get more.

OR if you don't want to wait, you can get the H8 bulb which is almost identical to the H11, you just have to trim one little piece of metal on the key to get it to work. How do I know this? V-LEDs accidentally sent me one H11 and one H8 initially. I sent the H8 back only to be sent another (I think they had a batch of H11's labeled wrong, on the socket it says H8/H11 since it will plug directly in to either). After comparing the two bulbs I found that one little snip would allow it to work. Here's a link to the H8's:

http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

If you are interested in doing this, I can post pics of what to cut later. Just let me know.

Your welcome. Those 3 x .5 watt LEDs that I linked you to are slightly more blue than the 4 x .5 watt bulbs that I replaced them with. They should be a perfect match for 8000K bulbs. Can't wait to see pics.

Pics dont show the actual color...
I think 6000K is the white look
8000K is the mid blue
10000K is real blue
and 12000K is purple

I'm using the 8000K
I love it

ON

I'm in the market to replace my HID's

I wanted something that would give the look of the stock Merc/BMW HID's

dead on they give normal HID light, but from the side or at certain angles you get that purple and bluish flicker?

I'm not sure im describing it correctly, but if anyone knows sort of what i mean, or can point me in right direction as to what HID type and intensity to look for that would be great.

Currently I have the V-LED fogs and parking lights, and will probably go with the 6k white/blue HID from them as well unless someone can give me an idea of what to go with to acheive the above desired effect.

Thanks
