Alright... I researched all night and found out most of the info I need. But I still have one unanswered question.... What is the difference between the 35w kit and the 55w kit? Can pick either one you want, is one brighter than the other?

also... I want a blue looking light but I don't want to lose too much vision which bulb would be the best to go with? I was thinking the 6000k but if i get the 55w kit it says violet hue and the 35w kit says white with blue hue...

I have the 35W with the 6000K and here how it looks...


I like them a lot and they match my LED side markers prefectly

 

I went with the 4500k 35w. Mine is pure white with no tint whatsoever. I just wanted the most usable light, didn't care about looks. I don't trust the 55w kit for some reason.

The install is pretty easy. Also in the wheel well there is a good spot to hide the little Ballasts.. the easy way to do this set up is take the front wheels off and the iner wheel well. it seems like a lot and you could do it just by turning your wheels but it is a lot easier and you get a better shot at it with the wheels off... If you need any help.. feel free to ask

 

Plenty space to hide your ballast.

8 with factory HID hide its ballast under headlight.
The surface there is flat, very easy to install.

However, you need to remove front bumper to access that.



OR.... you can place ballast behind oil radiators. Just remove couples clip & wheel liner. You dont need to remove front nose to access this. Check your 8 manual for changing headlight light bulb. It



What I have.
Front - 8000k HID + 8000k LEDs, Europe spec fog light (yellow output + blue tint daytime) (currently having a problem https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/oem-fog-light-fog-up-161524/)

 

I installed them underneath the headlights. Honestly it's easiest to just take the bumper off. Gives you a lot lot more room to work with and it really only takes 15min to take off the bumper.

 

just take ur whole car apart lol..jk

 

where did you get the led's to do that... did you wire them in with the headlights or seperate?

how did you mount the ballast under the headlights... is there enough space that the headlight still fits flush? doesnt the ballast let off heat? if so could it melt the headlights or hurt them?

^^ I mounted the ballast for my Mazda behind the oil coolers near the wheel well. that way the air will cool it off too....I had my HID kit for 2 years, No issue. No water on them. Just my two cents

 

yea i really like the way it looks under the headlight but i think i will be going with behind the oil coolers

 

i will try to make a DIY if i can get my digital camera to work.... at the least i will do a before and after of the headlights

 

You mean side markers and parking lights?
Just swap oem incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, thats it.

side markers too.... are resistors needed for any of them? probably not since they wouldnt be blinking i think :/

 

The brighter, the better. Also cost more.
SMT leds tend to be brighter.

For parking light: any 194 led will fit. (except spider led)
Side market: led must be equal or smaller than incandescent light bulb. Longer than usual bulb it will hit reflector housing.

Resistor not required.



People like V-Leds.com but I prefer Autolumination.com better since it give me size of each led.
I bought from V-Leds.com once and it does not fit my housing.

 

the side marker ones that i have posted in the pic i gave above are from RX8strakes.com that are a perfect match to the 6000K HIDs

 

I just used the double sided tape that came with the kit and I had some extra double sided tape. I positioned the ballasts so that there is plenty of room underneath the headlight and they sit flush. I'm not worried about heat, you don't see stock HID's melting all the time do you? I'd be too afraid that qwater would get to the ballasts if you mounted them behind the oil coolers, but that's just me. If you do a quick search on HID kits, there is a pdf someone posted on how to remove the front bumper, it's super easy.

 

alright... thanks for everyones help... i will be posting pics shortly... i got too excited and never took a before picture so all i have is the picture of the car with the HIDs no DIY either since I just went through the wheel well to install.....

If someone could suggest a nice fog light kit that would be great... looking for anything.... probably gonna do an HID fog light more then lightly with yellow HIDs or Possibly the 10,000k blue... not too sure yet

im gonna order the clear side markers and leds from rx8strakes after christmas..... also the LEDs for the front parking lights aswell.... im also thinking about doing a set of HID fog lights with 3000k lights so they will have a yellow tint.... what do you guys think?
