Unhappy HID Conversion Help...

hey guys, Im here again for help... I have a question. I have an 04 with regular lights, not the nice white lights, I want to make the conversion but I dont know what's good and whats not... I want 6000k on the regular driving lights...I already have fog, side, and parking lights looking bright white.. I just dont know if i need just the bulbs, or do I need a whole kit to upgrade from my regular plain drving lights to the white 6000k.. thanks in advance..

One last question, what bulb do I choose, and do I need a relay or not. I see there is 20 dollars more with a relay...

20 bucks sounds like cheap insurance to make sure your wiring harness doesn't catch fire. If the HID's don't pull more current then the OEM bulbs you're replacing, you don't need it. If the HID's do require a larger fuse, I'd use the relay.

I don't have a relay kit and running it for years with no problem.

Unless someone already catch a fire, I will put relay in right now.

From what I understand, 35w HID will eat more power when igniting. But to keep it shine will use less, 35w, compare to 55w incandescent bulb.

I've been running a 35W HID kit for a couple years myself, no problems for either.

get 4500k if you want the 'whitest' and brightest light

probably don't want to go beyond 6000k for the 'blue tint' look, anything beyond 6000k and you're actually losing significant light to put down on the road, which kinda defeats the main purpose of having HID, to put down more light onto the road.

So let me get this straight because I am going to buy blues for my 8 as well. I want a H7 and 6000k HIDs. Now what exactly is the H7, I don't want to buy something that I dont understand.

H7 is the type of halogen bulb that fits your stock housing, so you need a H7 HID kit.

Hmm but it seems as if I have HIDs already, so why would I need H7?

^^Yup. H7 is the bulb type for non-HID low beams. With the aftermarket kit they fix a HID bulb to the corresponding halogen base so that it fits in your housing (H7 in this case). If you are going to get a kit for your fogs you'll want H11.

Alright then H7 it is, thanks for the help, I read in a past topic that sport packages didn't come with HIDs which is weird, must have been an option that the previous owner of my 8 had put on or already in and didn't realize it. I am also reading that some people want a relay harness while others dont. Whats your opinion?

Seems like you do? I don't understand how some people can't tell if they have HID or not. Easiest way to tell (besides just looking at the lights and recognizing the color) is do you have stock foglights? Only the base model with no fogs are halogen headlights. If your car has foglights (fromt he factory) then it also has HID.

If you do have stock HID, then YOU DO NOT WANT H7! You also do not need to buy a whole kit, you already have balasts and all that jazz. All you need is bulbs. Look for bulb type D2S.

see this is why i ask questions lol. Here is a better description. Bare with my I had a Mazda 6 a year ago that had regulars so I thought I had the Xenons.

Car has Foglights on the bottom
Car has a blueish tint that seems to charge up to a lighter blue
Has a cutoff all the way across on the top

What year sport? In 04 and 05 (maybe 06 too, I'll have to check) there was a base model, sport, touring and GT. The sport model added specifically fogs, HIDs, and DSC. Later they dropped the "base" model and the sport became the new base. But then you could add the performance package which again added fogs, HIDs and DSC.

Again... do you have fogs? Yes? then you just need DS2 bulbs. No fogs? get the H7 kit.

If the Sunlight Silver car with the lights on is yours, then yes you already have HIDs. 05 sport models definitely had HIDs. I've got an 04 sport and I swapped to 6000k bulbs also. All you need is the D2S bulbs. I've swapped out just about every bulb on the car so just PM me if you have any other questions.

Cool. Post up some pics when you get them installed. You know you're going to have to get LED bulbs for your parking lights and possibly fogs so that everything matches. Check mine:
