I have never personally issued a ticket for no front plate. As a matter of fact I don't like giving tickets at all. As far as looking into cars, that is more a matter of safety than trying to catch people doing something wrong. Many cops have been shot on traffic stops by seemingly normal people. We have to protect ourselves. Most cops are not out to ruin your day either, they have a job to do. In fact many of the cops that I know from my department and others let many people go, especially if they have a good story. The bottom line is that you know that you are supposed to have the plates on and you choose not to display them. If some police officer has the audacity to enforce the law the blame still rests solely on you for knowingly disobeying the law. Be a man accept the responsibility.

Just wanted to harass me...of course I see him around weekly, so I know he'd just nail me again if I took the plate off, and I doubt I could get the ticket thrown out a 2nd time.
I was pulled over one time and the officer gave me 2 tickets (speeding and changing lanes w/o signaling) and a warning for no front plate. When I went to my lawyer to tell him about the tickets, he knew right away it was a state trooper. He said they were dicks. If I wasn't issued one of those other tickets, I'm sure that I would have also recieved one for the front plate.

I have to agree about the troopers. They are a different breed all together. And I have heard that forest preserve cops can be dicks too. Did RSD ever get those tickets cleared up?

You are correct, and I did accept the responsibility - I have many friends who are in the sheriffs office and city cops and know the danger, etc that they deal with - my issue was simply with this one state trooper who I was told (by a 19 year veteren in the same dept as him) is a jerk and likes harassing people with this sort of thing. He pulled me over for no reason, and then walked around my car til he found something he could issue me a ticket for. Around here, there's zillions of pickups, minivans, etc with no front plate that never get touched, but apparently this guy has a chip on his shoulder for cars like ours. Even the trooper friend of mine showed me her Blazer without a front plate. I was polite and did not argue - a warning would have sufficed - but he chose to give me a moving violation ticket and take my drivers license - honestly, I probably would have put the plate on with a warning.

There are ******* cops, but not all cops are ********. My comments were more directed at keef. Keef, if I smelled pot in your car I would have a dog there in less time than it takes me to write a ticket. Despite my lack of intelligence the very smart dog with the keen sense of smell would probably find it.

IMO there should be a national state to state city to city county to county or whatever in all of the areas in the so called united states that would have it so everywhere it is the same for all that as long as you have a legal tag mounted on the rear of your vehicle there should not be a problem with a front tag needed in some places and not in others.we all pay our taxes and know that when or where you are pulled over it's from behind you where your tag should be not in front unless some officer's like to jump in front of you to read your plate instead of watching you pass in a safe maner to come after you!!just my 2cts.but if every state city and county could save a few million dollars for just having one plate not two go figure we might come a little ahead on the buget!!but i just own a rx8 like most of you guys and think we should have a choice!

In Washington the front plate is required but they no longer require (or give you) tags to put on it. They just want to be able to identify you and your car that much easier/better/whatever.

plate

Here in VA state law requires you have 1 visible plate in the front and the rear. We'll my solution was to remove the front mount and thats packed away with some other parts in the house. I kept the front plate in its original plastic and it sits under my seat so if need be I can throw it in the windshield. Going through the gate to base they often ask where my license plate is so I throw it in the window and have no problems.

I'm going on 37 months with no front plate. I was carrying it in the trunk with the mounting hardware, but gave that up a year ago. I've been stopped for speeding once in all that time, and fortunately the officer didn't notice the missing plate.

Fingers crossed for the next 37 months ...

Cheers,
Oranje

I think California has front plates as a requirement because of the cameras posted at every street light thingamajig. Just another way to get caught doing something wrong...

I don't think a front plate should be required anywhere. If anything, get something like a small window decal or something else that doesn't botch up the look of the car as much!

Oh well, I'll stick to no plate until I get stopped or something...

I cut mine down and recessed it into the grill area. I've been pulled over twice in the past for no plate.

I left mine off till I got pulled over exclusively for not having a front plate. He added that I had a SMU bracket that covered up the top of the T in "Texas," yielding "|exas." As if some noob officer would think that "|exas" is a state, but since he didn't see the back of the car until he pulled me over, it's safe to say that he was keen in noticing the lack of a plate.

If there were some way to juxtapose the plate near one of the fogs such that it didn't hinder airflow to the Oil Cooler or AC Condenser I'd move it as seen in the DIY/on the Mitsu Evo.

Flipping License plate mount

I remembered seeing this lil jewel when I was moding my X's Mx-5. It's a fliping plate mount that I broke to stay down and told the cop i didn't know it was broken. Worked like a champ....just don't get stoped twice by the same lil piggy.
