yeah, but im willing to bet you the au-to bahn kit at least fits on the car with no modification.

I wouldn't care about the zip ties if the product actually fit properly, but it doesn't. Thats poor craftsmanship, and it's a replica for gods sake. All you have to do is ******* copy. Even toddlers can copy.

And don't give me this BS that we only paid 78 bucks, and it's a replica, and what did you expect, blah blah blah. I recently installed the DerWankel puddle lights that I bought months ago for 85 bucks. As I'm sure most of you are well aware, it was packed nicely, had very clear and detailed directions, and was supplied with EVERYTHING needed for installation, even the wire splitters! It also fit perfectly. No modifications, no headaches. I would gladly buy, and without hesitation recommend, any other product DerWankel has or will have.

Thats what I expect when I pay for a product, if you don't, then maybe thats why most things now-a-days are made like ****.

Save your speeches for someone else.

Nope, the tops aren't the right angle, so they flare out when you get towards the top. While the zip ties would hold the center in place, the top would stick out. I'd have to bend the mesh back and hook it into the chassis to bend the top so it's flush with the vent hole.

*sigh*

after a little more time I am still content with them. From a distance and in pics I think they look good. In person I can notice the gaps, this morning when I walked past my car after I got out and I noticed a gap when I was looking front to back near the top (I'm assuming the same place chr1s was having issues.

the tops of the vents do have some issuse staying in, but I was able to work the mesh enough to keep it somewhat stable. As I said in my first post, I may need to walk around every now and then and reposition them slightly, but they aren't horrible.

I do like the way they look, and I have had a couple more people say they look good in person, so I think I am just picky since I was the one that installed them.

I will still say that until these are slightly more mainstream, don't order them yet, if jay is even taking more orders.

Jay, for the rest of the vent you make, you need to reposition the top clip, I had to cut it off and shave off whatever you used to attach it, and now the mesh is loose for that hole. I was able to rig it to stay well enough, but if you can reposition that so it isn't right on the edge it would save a lot of the trouble.

The others? By that you mean Aero8?

He had to shave off the top clip for god's sake. I would have to do the same to make it fit, plus all the modifications to the mesh itself.

Well, I'm going to send it back to Jay and take pictures of what the issues are. Hopefully he can fix them.

Did you have to clip the mesh as well Aero8? To get it to fit I would have had to trim the mesh in all 3 screens - On top of all the other modifications I would have had to do.

good luck.

I did have to clip the mesh, on all of them. then I basically pushed the mesh behind the frame of the car so the vent would be as flush as possible. once I got the mesh cut enough and the clip trimmed I finally put the zip ties through the mesh and around the bars in the frame.

cutting the mesh was farely easy, as I have a pair of kevlar cutters. they are the best things in the world for cutting wire, zip ties, thin metal, etc.

I think I need to get a better mesh. These mesh are too big and hard. They get in the way of the vents. I will try to help out as much as possible. Autobhan's is a little smaller mesh then what I provided.

shinka, do you know what tab they are talking about at the top? did you have any similar issues?

im really sad to hear all of this, i really want these vents but the $200+ price tag ($300+ for cf) is just not doable for me right now. i really hate the stock vents tho. they look okay but are a pain when washing your car and all the water gets trapped in em. hopefully issues with these replicas can be resolved

if you can test fit a set and cut the mesh you get to the best size and eliminate the gaps you would have a lot better product. if you can't, keep providing the same amount. It is better to be able to cut some off then come up short.

Fender Vent Clarification!!!

ok fender vent purchasers.....I wanna let EVERYONE know that all the fender vents except OEM have this lousy set up for installing...

If you didnt read my thread (the one that i posted in the gallery with photos)..here goes:

1. yes, they came with zip ties....had absolutely no idea how to use them cuz the directions were in japanese....SO I DIDNT USE THEM....

2. i had to make an adjustment on the tab up top cuz the vent would not go in...i carefully bent it back away from the edge into a right angle...using needle nose pliers

3. the screens were as big as YOURS so i cut them to fit....THAT i thought was a no brainer...im assuming that they gave big pieces just for that purpose....

4. the 2 sided tape that came with it was CRAP...i used my own...and ran it all along the outside edge and across the 2 center dividers

5. it came with come extra clips with a sticky backing....i put one above and one below one of the center dividers (on the vent) and used some picture hanging wire...i ran the wire from one clip to the other as an added measure so that the vents cant come out..

6. after i got them installed i gently pushed back the top clip from the inside so that it fit nice and flush...

7. make sure that you use the right side on the right side as they look very similiar..if you dont, you will think that they dont fit....ie the top curve is not the same...
hope this helps everyone...

.....and i just want EVERYONE to know that my kit looked just like yours....

an install cluster fvck!!!

but boy do they look schweet after you get them in!!!

the top clip just needs to be bent back...then install it, then push it back...

i'm slightly confused as to how you bent yours back. like, I read it , read it again , then read it a third time to make sure I didn't understand it . I think our clip may have been in a lightly different location, because there was no way mine would end up flush leaving it there...or I am a moron with clips. either way, cutting it off made it flush enough so that is ok.

I think extra clips with sticky things would help a lot, mainly at the top as the is the part I was having issues with. the driver side is still slightly loose, and the passenger side I took some of the mesh that I cut off, wove it into the mesh still attached, then bent it up from the inside to make it a little more stable.

I couldn't do this on the driver side because the mesh was rather loose on the vent after I cut the top clip. I tightened it as much as possible, but there was no way I was going to try to attach something to it to hold the vent in place.

just so I understand this...you had clips that you bent around the frame of the hole from the inside to keep them against the car...correct?

we also didn't get dbl sided tape, and I didn't bother looking for any, I could try that in the future if they become loose and start to move a lot on me. for now I think it is ok.

Hey Aero...

lemme see if i can find a pic of the vents somewhere.

i had a clip at the top and one at the bottom....the one at the bottom slipped right in but the one at the top was flush almost with the vent so it wouldnt fit behind the opening...thats why i had to bend it back (at a right angle to the vent)
once it was in then i slipped my hand back behind the vent and pushed it back into place and it made a nice tight fit...

if i can find a pic...i will post it...

right now, the kitchen is calling and the boys (sons) are coming for dinner....
gotta get cookin!!

haha, no problem, I was just curious about the clip. I am mad now that I didn't take pics of the back of them. once again, either way I have them on, cutting it worked, so others can cut it off or try bending it.

Oh I can get them to install, it would just require extensive modification.

I wouldn't mind having to clip the mesh and slide it behind the frame. It's the fact that there's a clip on the top thats CLEARLY not suppose to be there. If Jay would have spent 10 minutes installing one on an RX-8 he would have seen this problem, and saved us some headache.

He doesn't need us to take pictures or send anything back to him. It would take him literally 10 minutes to see the problem with the current iteration of vents.
