Dark Smoke Lights, Tint or Paint?

I want to darken my head and tail lights, and was wondering about the benefits/drawbacks between getting the paint and buying the custom cut tints. I'd like to make them as dark as possible (legally). Anyone recommend a specific product?

You could spray them with VHT Nightshade. Although you gotta research the process of spraying them (spraying coats, wet sanding, buffing, etc)

I watched a fellow RX-8 club member attempt to put the overlay tint on his. He did his headlights so he has some experience in doing the job. But watching him for three hours on just one tail light. And then the last bit it stretches to much and is ruined. That made me not want to tint them.
The problem is you have so many convex and concave areas on the lens that it takes forever.
Spray tint is the way I would go.

i just recently painted my lights..i went the overlay route once i was oging to do both front and back and after realizing how much time and patience i would need and see how they looked after being done on some other cars, bubbles, wrinkles, i decided i would just rather paint...it look gr8 and not wrinkles or bubbles the only thing is after a few rain showers it starts to lose its shine but you can always buff and wax you car including the lights and it will be back to being gr8

I have tint on mine, but I plan to redo them with paint. Everybody has a rough time with the rears. It took me all damn day to get the rears done, and then they filled with water and I had to get them replaced. So now I have tinted heads, all 6 windows, but no tails. Looks strange lol

Yea ive been thinking about painting them VS tinting them as well. My uncle owns a body shop so I think im going to take it to him to do the paint. Any recommendations on a translucent paint or were not to paint?
