how come no one is putting it on the passenger side? lol
^ or in the center? Don't like the off-center look as I think it makes the plate stick out like a "sore thumb"
well i think they put it on the side because if it was in the center it would block out alot of air going into the car
it goes on the drivers side so police going the opposite direction can see you have a front plate.
it does not go in the middle because that lower air hole is where 80% of the air for the radiator comes from. not the faux grill that the license plate hangs in front of. |
the whole point is to not have the plate in the middle... and for $10, nothing can beat it
put mine on about 5 minutes ago...definitely the way to go if your state requires a front plate...no more tickets for me! :fruit:
i shall go buy one this saturday!
if you want it off for pics, this is super easy to remove... 2 screws on the bottom and thats it (unlike the oem center plate holder where you would have to remove the plate then the bracket)
i just put mine on, on the stock bumper but does any one know if the license plate would hit the body of the car by the wind?
^^ you could always add some self-adhesive rubber bumpers to the back of the plate to prevent that.
i just used double side foam tape where the license plate touches the bumper. not necessary for me, because i have the clearbra on my car. but i didnt want to take any chances.
just put a 2" strip of whatever adhesive thing you can find. no sweat. |
I used those single sided sticky foam from the dollar store and taped it on the back of my license plate. If you dont do it, it might rattle against your bumper
ill try to find one. thanks!

Yesterday I found the screws which came with this kit started rusting, but the bracket was fine... Have any of you experienced this?
Anyways I dropped by Home Depot today and bought some stainless screws and replaced them. I would recommend whoever is buying this kit to replace the screws to stainless to prevent rusting. |
just got mine done, pretty simple install
i just hate who ever previously owned my car because now there are two dents in the middle of the bumper because it looks like the license plate bracket was screwed on too tight http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...5%2009/002.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...5%2009/003.jpg |
Twiz, nice idea to put it on the TOP of the lip, to keep it from scraping. Of course, then you have to center it more, it's not that terrible.
Personally, I don't have a front plate and I hope I never have to. As good a job as people have done at mounting them, the car just never looks as good with one as it looks without. So far, it hasn't caused problems, and I hope it stays that way. But, if I ever do get in trouble for it, at least I know there's a viable solution. |
^+1 On your whole statement and +1 on the previous comment about using stainless steel screws.:yesnod:
i scraped the license plate few days ago.. but the bell relocater is perfectly fine except that the license plate kind of leaned into the body more.
^ same here... lol! I just take the plate out and bend it back to normal shape with pliers. But I think I will make a custom bracket to adapt with the bell plate holder bracket, so the plate will sit higher and maybe even flush with the bumper height.
you should post a diy when you make one! id would love my license plate to be little higher.
twiz, you should put some foam tape behind the top of the license plate so it doesnt scratch the paint on your bumper.
