The problem is as soon as somebody brushes by it or rubs it, it gets polish marks and you cant clean it the way you can a clear coat. if you try to buff it, it makes it worse. A friend of mine just painted his miata matt black and same thing happened to him, and his dumbass works at a paint and body shop, so it did'nt cost him nothing to redo it.

Me and my boy that works at the same body shop just finished my car a couple weeks ago.

here ya go, got more pics, but dont feel like downsizing right now, these are just cell phone pics.
Thanks for the tip on the matte black. Doesn't sound like something I'm ready to get in to. I do like how you did yours but I would try the reverse. I also want to change out the bulb (the golf ball size one) in the headlight to a red bulb. I found it one time here in the club, but I can't locate it right now.

Thanks again to all for the feedback. I still have about a week and a few days before I have to decide======z

Yeah you don't need a paint code for matte or satin black, just tell them thats what you want.

Don't say I did'nt warn you! Take a lot of pics when it's first done, cause it's not gonna be like that for long.

I looooooove! satin and matte black it's just not practical for daily driver.

Atilla, you could get your car wrapped in matte black instead of painted. I bet that ferrari on page one is wrapped and not painted.

did you guys ever think the flat black was just a primer on that widebody? probably was just prepping it for the new paintjob.

flat black that looks like that, a primer? no! Black is used as a sealer not a primer, and it's not sanded and smooth like that.
That was an intentional final color.

yes! hah it is a certain type of paint that has a low gloss rate in both the basecoat and clear. my neighbors both have a matte black paint on their prostreet cars.

Both those vehciles (the 8 and ferrari) are wrapped in Vinyl. If you paint a car Matte black it will almost immediatly begin to have weird marks on it from different temps and just being touched. It will show everything so to get a good looking matte black finish you need to have it wrapped which costs about 4k. My father works in the printing business and he can sell me a roll (which will cover about 2 cars) for 1k but applying it truly is an art.

The decision is made...PEARL. Will start the spray on Monday afternoon. I am now going to order the clear side markers, black strakes, eyelids, but I can't find the JDM ones.(has anybody tried the ones from RX8 strakes?)..black not carbon and I still can't figure out what that little bulb is in the headlight. I want to change it to red.

I did have the guys go ahead and remove/finish the "mazda" and "rx-8" emblems from the rear lid. Now it will just have the mazda logo....what ya think about that move?

No I was saying that the matte black on those cars are not primer! Yes they're are basecoats and semi gloss clears that can do a matte black like that, I was just saying that it's not primer. Cuz nuke0907 said something about it. HAH!

Get it straight.

Do you mean the little round light in the headlight housing (the inside-most light)? If so, that's your parking light, and it's a 194 bulb. I recently replaced mine with a 4x.5W 194 LED bulb from VLEDs and I love the results.

Here are some pics to illustrate what light I mean...
