Who has info on MAP based tuning for an N.A.?

We are addressing some MAP based tuning for our stock built Renesis which runs a manual throttle body, TMAP sensor, EGT (not EGT tuning based), big nasty exhaust, etc., etc.

We run the Grand-Am Bosch 4.3 ECU used by the 3 rotor SpeedSource cars in addition to the big nasty V-8 Rolex DP and GT cars. Map or MAFless tuning is more prevolent in the racing circles. This is a very robust and highly tunable ECU. We have a new tuner that is looking for timing info from those who know what they are talking about.

If you have information on this for the N.A. Renesis, please contact or post any information you have. I'm specifically looking for those who have experience with experimenting with Timing.

Much thanks. I'd prefer to have a dialogue over the phone.

Thanks everyone. I guess I should've mentioned that we do not run in a street environment and use race gas so things are a bit different and very different than the stock setup. Quite frankly I was fishing for a Pro Formula Mazda team to shed some light.

Thanks,

E

This on my to do list, but for FI.

If your a stock motor, with no porting or anything, then log your VE% and then get your dynamic compression ratios, I have found that in a racing type environment (catless, good gas, little worry about long term metal fatigue), in some spots there is as much as 12 degrees "left on the table" by Mazda, mostly in lower load higher RPM areas. With race gas, you should be able to get that back since I doubt you care much about how smooth decel is.

Split is something else entirely, since I only do street cars, and 99% of them are boosted I can't really say that I have done anything creative with split, but I do know of some NA old school guys that are very aggressive, zero split under load and all kinds of crazy stuff.

You will need to talk to people at MoTeC since the ECUs for Pro Mazda were locked with the exception of a manual fuel trim switch in the driver cockpit

Great minds think alike. Went there early and found out they consider that info proprietary. I did find out that those cars make more than 230 on a dynojet. Most likely do to the lower tranny friction. My math says about 17% drivetrain power loss with a stock trans. Huge. The sequential boxes are about 10-11%. Less if REM'd. FYI. I've been sitting on a close ratio fully seq 6 speed quaiffe for over a year now. Want to put it in the car with a street ported 13b turning 297 flywheel and go play (which is how I'm aware of these numbers).

Eric-

You need to vary not only the timing but the timing split. I will make a call or two today and see what I can find for you, as this is something I have been working on for myself. There is some good info out there for you if you poke around.

Callyou later today, really bummed about you not making Road Atlanta this weekend- offer stands to drive my car all you want amigo.

Oh, and all we ever tune is MAP based tuning, feel free to have your guy give me a ring and we can bat ideas back and forth
Cheers,
Don
