Whats the difference between Fed vs Cali Accessport Map?
Im curious as to what the difference is between a Cali vs Fed map. If my pcm identifies itself as Cali im pretty sure a Fed map will not work just curious as to why. Also i would like to know if you open a Fed map in the Accesstuner software can you save it as a Cali map is there a simple conversion?

^ I ask because Jeff (MM) always has a user specify weather or not their pcm identifies itself as a Cali or Fed car. When you flash an AP map it seems to have some sort of relevancy. I just want to endure when i go to pick up my car with 3071r turbo kit my base map will allow the car to start because its not a Cali map.

I think as far as aftermarkets maps are concerned, there is no difference between Fed and Cali. However, the Mazda stock maps are different for Fed and Cali and Mazda "imprints" the computer as such. I think AP needs to know whether the computer has been "imprinted" as Fed or Cali in order to install the aftermarket maps.

The distinction between Federal and California models has been removed from the current firmware.

I have two one from you via the accesport calibration service for an rx-8 05 cali MT 6sp FI and another one used by my tuner who has tuned several turbocharged 8's but i know is for a pcm that identifies itself as FED....
I will definitely need to be able to move my car once its done at the mechanic so waiting for a map pending "if your rx-8 doesnt start" doesnt work for me or the mechanic. Hence why im asking the question.

That 4.0.1 from last August is not gonna be compatible with the new firmware.
If the file that your tuner has is for a FED model, it won't work either on the new firmware unless he re-saves it in the correct format for your car, which should be pretty easy if he is an authorized Cobb AP tuner.
Otherwise, you will have to start from scratch (which you will probably have to do anyway since the firmware changes and anything you changed in your setup).

^Nope he tuned his cars via accesstuner he mainly deals with rx7's so doesnt want to purchase the software.
So your map you have as the initial map once you identify pcm is all up to date and compatible with the latest firmware? I know they just released it....I hope it works then to get my car started or else i might have to trailer the car somehow.......its far away.
