well when i follow the directions, and my car gets the main ECU fried. youve got to wonder why it did..... i know i didnt do anything wrong because its just pluggin wires.

 

did you unplug your car battery as described in the instructions before messing with the ecu?

well since my ECU was fried, there could be no tests run on it. my mom told me that when she went to the dealership to talk to them about what happened, that the guy in the service department showed her the old ECU and told her that there was no information on it. i dont think it could have been tested if it was blank. and i did send the int-x back to scott and he told me that it was fine. so i dunno what the problem was but i really regret trying to make this thing faster than it already is, especially since i dont have much money (im only 17).

how do i not know what im talking about? im saying exactly what the mazda service guy said, so are you saying that he doesnt know what he's talkin about?

it was MY MONEY so stop thinkin im some kid who gets everything and his parents pay for it. my parents didnt want me to get anything that would make my car faster, but i really wanted to get the part. so i saved up 1600 bucks and bought it. it took me almost all summer.

No - what we are saying is he is lying to you. Either willful or not, he is not telling you the whole story and neither are you.

 

he probably doesnt know the whole story because he asked me "what did you do to this thing?" and i told him. he said it fried and erased the ECU but my battery was disconnected while i installed it and none of the fuses blew..

 

YOU CAN'T "ERASE" THE PCM.

Even if you could, you would just flash it and be done with it.

Just stop. Please.

 

They problem is that when the instructions read "Disconnect the negative power cable from the car's battery", he interpreted that as "Toss your car's PCM into the ocean and let soak for 30 minutes before reinstalling in car, making sure not to disconnect the battery"

 

Damn...that's complex.

I hope that my install goes better tomorrow. I have to learn to tune this software before the .......well....can't get too excited

ok someone buy me a interceptor-x and give me 1840 bucks and we can meet up sometime during spring break and i will show you guys what i did. and my car will have to be towed again, and you can personally talk to the service guy and he will tell you that it has been erased. he tried to reflash it but it was completely destroyed.

 

I've wired up an Interceptor just fine. Many people have. It's pretty hard to mess that up.

 

one of my fuses blew when I installed mine. It seems to be pretty common.

The car wouldn't start after the fuse blew. But it costs about $0.50 for a new one, and takes about 30 seconds to install.

Maybe that's what really happened to you, Josh. So you bought a $1500 fuse.

 

What happened to yours?

 

i dont want it back. it already messed my car up once, i dont want to have it happen again.

 

i checked every fuse like 10 times because scott kept tellin me on the phone that he thought that had to have been the problem and he didnt know what else could have happened.

 

dude.. its plug and play... that means you plug it in and it works... but there is a catch, you need to hook it up correctly, granted it can be intimidating if you never hooked anything at all up to your car but it should have fit only one way.... so like everyone said to you before "you (no one else) did something wrong"

now i can understand that you are only 17 but the fact of the matter is your interceptor is fine and it was tested to be fine. the dealer mechs for the most part are lost. you are lucky to find 2 mechs that are decent in the state. the person you are talking to (scott) is one of the most knowledgable about the electrical system in the car.... infact there is a video on there website on how to install the int-x. you should look at that and tell us what you did differently. did you do the install or did you have mazda do it?

is your warranty now voided?

 

It didn't mess up your car - you did.

You can count on it happening again.

I talk about Matrix Mode and how it fixes a bunch of the things about the Int-X that suck.

 

I was just wondering... when I end up purchasing my Pettit SC with Int-X will I encounter these problems or will the tune provided be sufficient. If I decide to go the extra mile(which im sure I will) and have Pettit tune the car for me even further than the base tune are they as knowlegable on this subject as yourself ?? I must say im impressed....

Problems Im refering to are typical tuning problems such as leaning out at higher RPMs or running rich at idle like you talked about. Not having a dealer tell me what went wrong like a previous poster stated.... just wanted to clarify

 

Most probably they are going through the same learning curve as all of us. THey won't tell you that though
