Is mazdaedit capable of running e85 or flex fuel.

Mazdaedit programs the PCM pretty much however u like, but as far as flex fuel you would need a sensor to detect the amount of ethanol in the fuel, it would work for that, but if u want to program strictly for e85 or e30 or anything that's consistent then it will work for you just fine.

It is possible but it gets tricky due to the variation in E85. I am running an E85 (three gallon of E85) mix (using a Cobb but that doesn't matter) and I have to make sure the blend is consistent because if it is not it will mess with the tune. Luckily, my E85 station is very consistent but I have seen that in other areas where E85 tested is as low as E55.

I would not recommend it on a daily driven car and it would be pointless on an NA RX-8.

i would rather setup for flex fuel if possible and understand that it would need a fuel sensor. this will be mostly a track car. I will be bringing e85 to the track but in case i run out, i want to be able to put pump gas in.

has anyone been able to setup flex fuel with mazda edit.

I’m not aware that you can do that except with an Adaptronic or other aftermarket ecu. The sensor has to relay it’s signal and the factory pcm is not setup to either receive or process it

As Team mentioned it isn't possible with M/E . I get by on my street car without issues by swapping back and forth between E30 and E10. I have found I can run either on the same tune without issue . If I can't get E85 to make up the E30 blend I just put E10 in and the fuel trims do the rest . Being boosted , I just turn the boost down to my 'Rain' setting when running E10 and it just runs a little rich under boost.

the station where i get e85 is pretty consistent e85. so mixing up e30 is not much of an issue i guess. i can bring a few jugs of e85 to the track and mix with 93 (e10) to get e30. then if i run out of e85, i can just run straight 93? without needing to switch map?

I doubt you would have any issues doing that so long as you don't tune it too rich on E30. But I also doubt you will make any extra power on E30 vs E10 so maybe not worth the trouble .

I'm having my car e-tuned and need to buy a version of MazdaEdit. However, I'd like to learn to tune (just as a hobby and only on my car). I bought a book on it and will be reading through this thread and probably others. But before I get through all of that, I need to make a software purchase soon to get my car running on an e-tune as I'm installing a supercharger which obviously won't run correctly without a tune. And this build needs to be completed before I begin to research tuning.

So at the risk of getting a "search, noob" response, can anyone tell me if there is a benefit to the Pro version ($650) over the Personal version ($250)? I really only have one RX-8 to tune, so don't need multi-VIN capabilities, but I don't know enough to know what the hex editor does for me that the map editor can't. Can anyone help me understand the basics quickly enough to make a decision on which version to buy, as I'll need to do this several months before I'll even begin to learn to tune? Thanks.

You can do everything you will want to do in the personal version . Pro version is only if you want to tune for others .

Great, thanks Brettus.

Hopefully I'll have more constructive additions to this thread in the distant future.

With Brettus's help, i can now confirm that dump made with Kess V2 clone unit works great with mazdaedit! I've got mine for 120$ CAD shipped to my door, so less than 100$ usd. So if you already have one openport registered to mazdaedit, and want to use something else to dump, or if you don't have a openport, this could be a nice alternative!

Wow, just bought the personal version, came up to 320$ CAD, and the file that does open in the Pro version does not open in the Personal version, epifan says that it's not compatible with mazdaedit, but Brettus did open it with the pro version... Well looks like i've just been ripped off 320$ by some russian guy who clearly don't care about customer... Even if i told him it was opening in the pro version, he keeps telling me it's just not compatible...

What does him being Russian have to do with anything? It doesn't sound like you were ripped off to me. It sounds like you didn't understand what you needed before buying.

It have nothing to do with it, i just wrote that out of frustration, sorry about that. After talking with epifan, seems like the pro version will open RAW binary but once you save them they'll be scrambled by mazdaedit... Don't get why he would scramble the binary but anyway... He converted my bin to mazdaedit, so now i can open, but still can't flash it with the Kess v2... I don't get why his software would scramble/encrypt my original bin... Which break the possibility to flash with a Kess unit...

I'm not surprised your plan doesn't work . Epifan has that software tied up tighter than a fishes *** .
I know someone that has a brand new Openport 11 he isn't using .. pm me if interested.

Bought one from Tactrix yesterday, came in today! Flashed good! And also found a pretty easy way to get my files back to original readable state once modified, so all good!

Still confused on this, former cobb ap tuner

Having tuned a cobb ap for 5 years and a haltech e6k for longer, this mazdaedit thing seems a little incomplete, from reading all of the above.

So when buying mazdaedit Personal version and the Tactrix dongle, am i able to
1) pull my stock map off the ecu, to retain in case i need to reflash to stock?
2) see most maps true and applicable names, or have to figure them out and name them myself (like Brettus did, I believe)? Is that even possible in the "Personal" version? Per the website, it seems not. But i read that most mapsnames are screwy, right?
3) tune omp injection duration?

1/yes
2/ This is no worse than the Cobb which also has misnamed maps , but you do get a few maps that the Cobb doesn't have. There is no need to rename anything.
3/yes

Brettus - much appreciated. Does standalone logging with the OpenPort 2.0 to microSD work? Has anyone put the ME software on an android tablet yet?
