I do not claim to be an expert when it comes to engine tuning, that is why I constantly talk about mods that I am planning to get with people I believe are "experts". What I am getting too is the stage 1 mod. I was thinking about getting this mod particularly because of the claims of 25+ HP. I have changed my mind lately after talking to two of the best rotary tuning shops around. Both Acosta Racing and Pettit Racing, both excellent shops have told me that they both have had customers that have bought the stage 1 and had cars dynoed at their shops. Both shops reported to me a 0 gain to actually loosing HP and suggested not to get this mod. Any thoughts

Read from the beginning of the thread... this does NOT work on all cars without some tuning. But WITH tuning, it can work very wellm, and it also works well right out of the box for many.

So let's look at the basic premise of what it does: Modification to a/f and ignition advance can make a difference on ANY car - it's one of the oldest hotrodder tricks around, right up there with less restrictive intake and exhaust. The Canzoomer unit allows you to tune these parameters on the RX-8, and it's the only thing out there right now that will allow that.

Your call as to whether you buy one or not. It pay work perfectly right from the start. Even if it doesn't, if you're willing to tinker with it (or pay someone else to) gains can be had. If you want plug and play performance, this may not be for you. But you'll never know if you don't try.

I'm curious... why is it if "MAP SENSORS VARY WILDLY" in tolerate... that the stock, same-firmware ECU's fuel mapping seems to work PERFECTLY but CZ's doesn't?? Since CZ is only a modification to the EXISTING map, the ECU's self-learning would adjust for the 'tolerance' issue spoken of.

I just don't get the logic to this.

The Canzoomer unit makes it's adjustments to the a/f maps and ignition curve ONLY based on voltage output from the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor, not MAP). It's designed to operate between a certain range, say 2V to 4V. The MAF sensors however may range between (for instance) 1.7V and 3.7V, so the CZ unit does not realize 3.7V is equivilent to 4V in that particular car. The car's ECU does recognize this fact though, and can compensate for it.

So even if the CZ unit is only modifying an existing map, if it's not getting full voltage it may think the throttle is only at (for instance, again) 3/4 position because all it's seeing it 3.7V.

Make sense?

tunning this thing is not as easy as you think, from what a few people have told me.the unit comes with no instruction what so ever and theres a few tricky things about it from what a shop told me.you can read right on top that by adding fuel plus + your actually taking it out .that goes on with ignition and so on.iam trying to get them to make a manuel or something explaining how this works i spoke to michelle and is looking to send me something .thats one of the things 2 shops i took my unit to tune told me. emanage and others other tunning unit come with some kind of information on what you can do with your unit.good luck and keep us updated
