dyno numbers for CZ stgae 1.1 and M flash???

All,
I am part of the 2nd group buy and I am currently waiting on the CZ stage 1.1 unit. I have been reading a lot of issues and displeassures of members experiences with their units. I would like to know that my money was well spent and my time of waiting will be worth it. Otherwise, I would be a very unhappy camper. I would like to see some factual evidence (Dynos, gtech e.t.c) that show the advertised numbers of 20+ HP with the stage 1 unit and the M flash. I hope someone can vouch for this. Otherwise, I just might sell my spot to someone else. Thanks in advance.

I would be absolutly shocked if anyone got a 20 mph difference with the unit. Although all the cars differ and may make a bit of a differnce I see no way how anyones 8 would get 20 hpw when mine only got 1 hpw at best.

I do not have any dyno results, but I have done a bit of testing with my Gtech and have seen about a 11HP Max gain, and at 22HP gain over stock @ many points high in the Powerband. I do not have the "M" flash, and Maurice has told me that after getting that done, and changing the map on the CZ I could expect to see about 5 more max HP.... I have charts at home on my computer to back up my findings, and when I get a chance I'll post. The way I look at it... If nothing else. I know I'm saving gas...it will pay for itself eventually

Thanks for the input, GSXRSTAR. Can anyone with the M flash and CZ stage 1 chime in? Maurice??Rx8 friend?? I think its critical that we know the TRUE performance gains of the CS stage 1 with the recommended flash i.e the M flash.

Damn....give up on the dyno thing. It is obvious to anyone who READS these forums that due to the nature of the PCM on these (and most new cars), that Dyno's....are not working.
If you log sensor data you will notice that the PCM is very agressive in detuning this car if it doesn't think things are perfect. If it pings, it retards the timing 10 degrees instantly.....You gotta know that that is not the only variable that this computer will assess....TCM, ABS,DSC are all controlled and affect the PCM...

On the 4th of june I took my car out for the first time. I ran all night and got about 15 runs in. My best time all night was a 15.25. My car was still stock. I got my mod chip in on thursday with the M flash and had my car in on friday to get the ECU updated. Came home excited and installed the CZ stage 1. I played with my car did a high speed run hit 147MPH it had a little more but the stop sigh came up pretty fast. On sunday I went back to the track to see what it can do. I did a small burn out then went to stage the guy next to me pulled up really fast and staged. I had to wait for the guy to mop my lane because the guy in front of me droped watter on the lane. I pull up and did not have time to set my car up right. The lights droped and I was off on the shift from 2nd to 3rd I broke my car the trans was making a loud sound. I still ran my best time ever 15.23. If I had all day I know I would of been in the 14's I can see a diffrience. That is just my $.02

If wrong means you can get reproduceable meaningful number between different cars........>GREAT Haven't seen it yet

I got up behind an acquaintence of mine who was driving a Mercedes Benz SLK. A convenient spot too, since we both were going almost to the same place an I knew it (he was headed home), and that route was first down a twisty road for about 3 miles, then onto a faster road for the last mile. I was having no problems at all staying with him on the twisty, not at all. I could have gotten all over him if I wanted to, but I just hovered back there in a liesurely way. It was, to me anyway, more like a "follow the leader" thing than a race anyway.

The twisty ends at a stop sign, then right onto a fairly straight, slightly uphill stretch. I just knew he was gonna show me his "superior" power since he did nothing on the twisty. He went, then I went, and yes, he was hard on it, and so was I.

I am very happy to report that he didn't pull away from me at all. It was a wierd way to race, turning right out of a stop sign, one after the other, so I'm not sure who would have taken the race if we had started side-by-side. But he did not pull away from me and I think I might have been the one who gained several feet on him. And I had my wife with me, he was alone. (Yes, she told me to get off of it @ around 85mph :D but it was time to slow down for his driveway and my left turn anyway.)

Made me very happy :D I can't wait to see him face-to-face, to hear his excuses! He really thinks his Mercedes is solid gold.

So, yes, I would like to think anyway, that the CZ stage 1 had something to do with it. No, this isn't very scientific at all, but it works for me :D

I just got the M flash done a couple of weeks ago and took my 8 for a dyno run today to use as a baseline against Canzoomers mods. I had my 8 on a Dyno Dynamics this afternoon. Sport Car Compact's latest issue has a great article about different dynos and what you should expect. They wrote that although Dyno Dynamics was one of the lowest reading dynos, it was the most consistent and repeatable. I witnessed that first hand as they ran my car several times with practically no change in readings. That's what is needed for tuning. It's bone stock and is the base model so the TCS and DSC don't come into play.

I put down 162.9 at the wheel. They calculated (its a guess at best) that I was seeing 213.8 at the flywheel. Since that dyno is supposed to be low compared to Dynojets and Dynapacks, I feel pretty good about my little 8. The proof will be in the follow up run after the Canzoomer goodies. I just ordered my mods a week ago though, so don't anybody stay up late to see when I post the next dyno. It's going to be a wait for sure.

i think even the base models will go into safe mode on a dyno, or maybe not. 163 isn't too shabby, especially on conservative dyno.

And the good news is the wait shouldn't be too long. We are -almost- caught up!

Any one know were the increases are in the latest units (5k to 9k ?). I saw some dyno data on a pre L flash units that looked good. Then I saw some G-tech data comparing a canzoomer L flash with non-L flash. (but not a canzommer L with a non-canzoomer L).

My car got a big low end increase with the m flash but either lost in the upper rev band or the power increase is less noticable. Does the unit still increase this. I am expecting a unit anytime from group buy #2.

Of course this may be so car dependent that published numbers don't mean much.

I had no problems on the Dyno Dynamics machine. Of coarse the ABS warning lights came on, but that does not send the car into limp mode. They had a nice big fan pushing fresh air my 8. All runs were practically tracing the exact same path on the graph. That kind of repeatability is irreplaceable for tuning.

So many different factors come into play when your at the track (or worse, blasting by grandma while you watch your Gtech light up). How hard did you launch? Where was the pot hole again? A dyno gives you a safe and consistent measuring stick for your mods. Just make sure you always use the same dyno.

I wanted to chime in and say that I operated the dyno software for musclecarconvrt's dyno runs. There was nothing strange that occured other than the triggering of the ABS light, which happens on several late model cars. There was no knocking on the dyno whatsoever (well, at least not from the RX-8). The results were straight needle repeatable every time, however, which is a testimony to the fact that things were running right.

For those of you using a GTech as a yardstick for measuring power and believing that it is more accurate than a dyno- PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY! I think the GTech is a pathetic way to measure power and results in wafer thin arguments. First off, it doesn't calculate trap speed even remotely in the same way an actual quarter mile track will (GTech shows inflated mph numbers compared to real 1320 run traps). Second of all, its virtually impossible to replicate an identical launch each time from the car. Third, you'd have to shift the EXACT same way at an identical point everytime. Fourth, conditions outside will inevitably vary which will effect your results. Dynos apply SAE corrections for atmospheric conditions. Using a GTech to measure power is like manually counting on your fingers to time an autocross.

I don't know why this forum despises dyno tuning, but even in a limp mode (which this base car w/o traction control did not enter), you're going to get a more realistic piece of data to work with than any ricebox accelerometer can supply. Maybe its becasue of the lower-than-expected numbers that are procured? In reality, the drag times most of you are seeing are right in line with the dyno numbers that these cars are producing. IMO, 238HP is still too high a rating from the factory, but the true beauty of the RX-8 encompasses so much more than just its power output. To me, the work Maurice and Co. are doing really justify dyno pulls, because you can see actual results, which is pretty awesome.

I'm very excited to see the results of this car after the Canzoomer bits arrive!
