DIY AP tuning

Hello All,

Checking to see if anyone has any good write ups for using the Cobb accessport. I have a panel filter and a catback and I am done with performance so the stage 1 kit from cobb will work. But i hear that you can increase OMP and lower the temp that the radiator fans kick off and would only be interested in these for reliability reasons. I have the Cash for an AP just wondering if I can adjust this myself and save 100 bucks as I am super happy with the power of this car.

Pay the extra money for MM's services it is well worth the $100 to ensure you don't f up your car.

I want the reliability but i hear that he has a 6 month or longer waiting list is this true? if it is something same month I wouldn't mind paying the extra 99.

Dude, there is a whole thread dedicated to this. Read, read, read. You could also take his AP Seminar. There are also a few good book on tuning. You have to understand a lot before you even begin to get into it. Using the AP is a the easy part, learning to tune is not.

Yeah, agreed... Tuning with an AP isn't really something that you can learn to do from a short few steps in a DIY... Sure you could figure out how to do a thing or two, but since you can realllly mess up your car if you do something wrong, its just not worth the risk of starting to fiddle around with an AP before you know exactly what everything does... I know I sure as hell wouldn't hook one up and start doing stuff with it if all I had to go on was a little DIY that I found on the internet haha. If I was wanting to do some tuning with one, I would just get someone that I know knows what they are doing to do it for me instead of trying to do it myself from scratch.

You get the benefits you are asking about nearly the second you sign up.
It's the tuning for power that takes a while, but even when things get really backed up, it never takes more than 2 months for your next iteration. (Provided you can follow directions.)

the wait is terrible, take it to a tuner. not to mention the Cobb AP has been discontinued for the rx8 last i heard?

Noob. The Cobb is alive and well for the Series I RX8. And what tuner do you suggest he take it too? Do you think every "tuner" knows how to use the Cobb Accesstuner software to make custom maps for an RX8? Do you think they know the detailed info needed about the RX8 to make a worthwhile tune? Hell most tuners would not have a clue what a oil metering pump was let alone how to adjust it via the PCM.

The wait is only a few weeks and the AccessPORT is no longer discontinued as I am the exclusive world-wide distributor of the RX-8 application as of August.

BTW - Where do you think the other tuners go when they need to calibrate an AccessPORT for the RX-8?
