Cobb AP+ NOOB = Fried PCM

So I was installing my new-to-me Cobb AP and the cord must have been super sensitive because I was tucking the wires and it disconnected at 64%
Hiley Mazda says that the PCM is done and I need to spend $968.00 on a new one. Any suggestions? Is it possible to get a new one for cheaper? A used one?

Did you try the recover process on the AP?

Cobb can rebuild the ECU for you ....contact them before you let the stealership try and sell you a new one......

Ouch...

The only thing ive noticed (sometimes, and its SO rare that I cant catch it on a datalog or on video) with my Cobb AP (or noticed when I got it and installed it in the following weeks, like I said its very rare) is it seems near redline my ECU will "Glitch" or something like that where my RPMs will fall instantly to about 5K, kinda like a shudder then suddenly again they will pick up again and ill be back at redline. There is a obvious power loss/ power cut but it happens so rarely that I havent worried about it...

Goodluck with this problem...

Geesh......... Anytime you are flashing any computer you leave it alone until it's done. IIRC, you can also save the info with ATR no?

Cobb fixed mine. Doesn't Cobb have a place in Plano or something? They did mine for free minus shipping. They partially fixed the connection issue with the USB cord on the new ones.

well, I pulled the trigger on the new one because I will be moving in a week and I need to be able to drive my car 1700 miles. Now I'm on my way to the doctor for a tetanus shot. Stepped on a damn rusty nail doing fence repair.

It will not give any power to the OBDII port. (that was the first thing I tried)

If cobb were to rebuild the ECU could I sell it to someone else? I mean, is it worth anything?

Cobb can unbrick it for you but you already moved on a new one.

I noticed this with my Rev/iPhone wireless OBD2 setup. If I touch the harness wiring coming out of the OBD connector the device connection comes and goes. It sems as if the connections are weak at best.

I also personally recommend having a battery charger connected to the battery and charging while performing any flash procedure, Cobb or otherwise.

so it would be useless to get it unblocked for the purpose of selling it and trying to recuperate my losses?

Okay, Thanks Team. If cobb were to unbrick the ecu, would it still work with the car without having mazda reflash it? Or would it need ot be reprogrammed because I am getting a new one?

i had a kid in our shop that hooked up his battery backwards and fried his ECM. Theres a federal warrentee on them for 7 or 8 years... you may be able to get mazda to put a new one in for free, as long as you don't tell them you're the reason it's fucked up. it worked for this kid at honda, but you may have already gotten it fixed, and then cobb does unbricking also... just for future referance, or anyone else that might read this.

It will have to be recoded because Mazda will have changed the information stored in the cluster and anti-theft module to reflect the new PCM, so the old PCM would be recognized any longer.

^thx

I called Cobb and they said that they could definitely fix it. I mailed it to them earlier today so they will get it monday morning. I was told that once they receive it, It will be taken care of that day and shipped back to me that day or the next FOR FREE.

I told Mazda to hold the part so I have a backup plan incase Cobb can't get it to work.
