Aftermarket Management

Hi Guys,

I'm currently taking my internship at a small motorsport company in the Netherlands, which already had their own line of management systems.

One of my projects is making their management system compatible with a 13B (the slow one, 190 bhp or so) Renesis engine from a RX8, because a customer has this wish!

I'm kind of having a hard time with this, especially with the injection en ignition timing of the engine, since it's a rotary!

I was wondering if you guys can help me a bit! The engine doesn't have to make any horsepower gains, it just has to run!

Here's a few questions I've had so far;

* How does the timing of the original trigger wheel sum up?
* I've read somewhere that the leading spark plugs fire via the wasted spark system, and the trailing not. Is this true? And is this neccessary?

So we don't have any fuel maps or so yet, but my boss will make a complete map when it's on the engine dyno. My job is to get it up and running, so I'm gonna start making the new wiring harness!

Some of the auxiliaries have fallen away, i figured the metering oil pump def has to stay, but how does it work?

I hope I'm not a too big of a pain in the ***

Hope you guys can help me out a bit!

Ow, forgot to mention that we have electronic throttle control on our computers, so that isn't a problem!

Start with the workshop manual, you can find it on foxed.ca
The original wheel\ess sensor is a magnetic pickup so it works as you would expect one to work. If you are referring to actual ignition timing then you will have to factor in a bunch of other data as the stock ecu bases every parameter on 3d and plus interpolations.
Without knowing what kind of pcm you're using it's hard to say what you need and what you can or cannot do.

I don't have to do the actual finetuning of the engine, but I have to get it to work!

We don't have sequential injection yet, that'll come in a couple of months on our newest ECU!

I just need to get the basics of the engine to work, but I'm struggling with the ignition and injection timing of the rotary engine!

Also, I need to get the original oil metering pump to be working, but I can't seem to find any info on the thing! How should it be controlled?

If you can tell me how the injectors are staged? Cause we can control staged injection, I just need to know how they are staged!

Same is for the ignition, we're using the stock coils, but I'm guessing they are 'staged' as well.. Not a problem, but I need to know so before I start making the wiring harness!

Thanks everyone for the info! Really appreciate it!
