Did anyone happen to catch my previous question regarding the ECT? I am interested as to if the thermostat is controlled by the PCM's reading of coolant temperatures or if it works on it's own.

I understand the thermostat is controlled by the temperature of the coolant in the motor. What I am curious about is if the thermostat gets the temperature information from the coolant itself OR if it responds to sensor input from the coolant temperature sensor.
I have reason to believe my coolant sensor may be inaccurate but if the thermostat functions based on it's own temperature input and not that of the coolant sensor then even if I re-calibrate the coolant sensor it will produce incorrect temperature readouts.

Ok, let me re-phrase the question:

now the temp sensor, well what are you talking about? aftermarket, where is it mounted..
i find the obd11 port gives very accurate temps..

it's not unheard of for a coolant temp sensor to fail. the way to check them is to remove them, put them in hot water at known temps and read the resistance with a multi-meter. or they should cost stuff all so just replace it.

Just finished reading this thread and thought i'd throw my 2 cents in regarding tuning. Since every car is different, the only way to get a completely accurate MAF calibration(or complete tune for that matter) is to do it yourself. While MM's service is very usefull for those that do not want to mess with it, those same individuals often get frustrated when they don't get a perfect tune from him the first time. I myself was one of these people as an early adopter of the AP. I finally got over it and decided I would rather do it myself than wait on Jeff.

complete side step of the thread-
you know every time i see your name i completely mispronounce it in my head. It always sounds like "morris-a-kumbo"
i mean i can see its not spelled that way but i guess the first couple of times i saw it 4 years ago i read it wrong and it just stuck....
