I just assumed there would be compatibility issues and didn't give it any thought. Thanks for sharing.

No prob, once in awhile I come up with something worthwhile to contribute

I did a little testing and it appears it doesn't matter where you copy the directory to. So if you put it in the original location was on the VM, ie: "Program Files", then you can copy your start menu shortcuts over and they will work without editing. The only thing I use the VM for at this point is the AP manager.

I'm trying to run APM in VirtualBox. I installed Windows 7 on the virtual machine and it appears that the drivers for the Accessport installed, but when I load APM, it just says Loading Accessport information and just keeps loading and loading. It seems that it isn't communicating with the Accessport, did I mess up the virtual machine's configuration or something? The device shows up in device manager.

did you connect to the device in VB? There should be a tab to do so.

I did connect the device to VB, but it never seemed to communicate with the device correctly. I believe it was some sort of problem with the VB usb filter driver. I used VMware Player and it worked excellently! I would have to recommend anyone looking to run a virtual machine for APM use VMware Player.

Wow, just went through getting this all setup again for Win7 to run on Virtual Machine to access the handheld AP device on a new laptop. Kind of a pain, but it all works now.

The RaceTuner flash editing software runs fine in Win10, but the AP Manager software won't connect to the handheld device due to not having a Win10 driver. It has to be running on either Win7 or XP to make the hand-held device connection. Without that, you can't transfer the edited maps in/out of the hand-held device.

Edit: If you're installing the RaceTuner software you also have to be able to access the hand-held device to complete the installation. I didn't need it above despite having a new laptop because I have RaceTuner installed already on a separate USB drive.

EDIT: technically it doesn't seem to matter where you copy it to on the host.

Also, this works for tuning for other people on different versions

Since W8.1 won't allow communication with the handheld device you can still load ATR on your W8.1 OS computer and perform tuning changes etc. there rather than on a virtual server. You will still need to perform your hand-held device communications on the virtual drive, but being able to handle the rest of it on my normal computer setup works better for me. Also, since I occasionally tune for other people it didn't lock into my serial number since the handheld device is not used for installation. Not sure yet if the other person can use it directly or will still have to open it and then save using their ATR program to update the tune with their serial number

Glad I had linked this and it was still valid, but now a PDF copy of the linked pages from above are attached for archiving

Also, think I may have found an old unlocked early version of the Cobb ATR (AccessTunerRace - Cobb self tuning software) if somebody wants to try it. Later versions were linked to the Cobb device serial number prior to them sending the software to you.

Thumbs up

Hey Team, if you have the old copy I will try it out and see if we can make it work.
I have many Windows 7 and older machines to play with.
