Well if I knew that do you think I would have asked the question I did? Anyways I hit up Home Dept, Lowes. Fastenall, and then went to Ace/Westlake hardware and found some bolts that were about the same length as the 2 spring bolts. They fit and were long enough to do the trick. Only thing I wonder is if they will be able to handle the extreme heating and cooling an exhaust system will put them through.

Thanks a lot for the detailed guide

Hey thanks for the guide, this was a huge help. I was kinda lost with the rubber hanger and that's how i found this thread. I knew there was an easy way. I just sprayed wd 40 around it, stuck a screw drive in the hole and sprayed. Then I just pried it from the other end. Pretty easy.

I have 108k on my car and am in the North east, so I was only able to recover 1 bolt out of the 5. That sucked, found some random bolts in the garage and got it installed. I ordered some new ones from www.onlinemazdaparts.com. Don't let mazda tell you it's part of the "cat." These bolts and studs have part numbers in there EPC and can be ordered. There parts guy is just lazy. I used plenty of antiseize so hopefully this won't happen again.

I have the black halo racing midpipe with the davesport cat. Took it for a test drive and my CEL turned off from my blown stock cat, so that must be a good sign. I got it used with only 5k from a forum member who was going back to stock for warrenty purposes. With 108k no worries about that for me.

Jacking it up in the front left barely enough room to do the bolts in the back. If you plan on doing this a set of ramps on the front or back and then jacking up the other side would be the proper way to do it. I tightened the 3 bolts at the front of the cat first and then realized the rear was to far apart at that time, even after loosening the from bolts the rear would not cooperate. I just borrowed some vice grip clamps(not the normal ones, the longer an roomier jaws kinda hard to explain..) and that brought the pipes together much easier.

The rubber hanger was actually the easiest part for me once I figured out the best method. I just leveraged between the hanger and the steel plate behind it with a screwdriver and it popped through it very fast. Not sure if s1 and s2 cars are different, but s2 has the steel wall thingy behind the hanger.

Even with an 09 car my exhaust has surface rust and my bolts up front were very difficult to remove but every one is reusable. The car has been only in Nevada all its life and only 30k miles, the rust surprised me.

Which bolts are you looking for? The 3 that connect the midpipe and the header? Because RB sent me those bolts with my pipe. The 2 spring bolts on the other end I had to buy from advanced auto parts

See above for some help, but Expo1(Mike) is no longer with us, so he won't be checking this thread. He was a valuable member here and passed way last month....way, way too soon.

As above asked.........which bolts?

oh wow...... i feel pretty bad right now. I'm so sorry to hear that.
Um.... I have yet to get the pipe and tear down but I was referring to the ones that are more likely to break? I was just going to order them in advance so I had them in the high possibility that they will suck.

I took a flat head screwdriver and very carefully worked around the bottom lip of it, a knife would work also. Just slowly put slight pressure upwards and it should come off I just barely twisted the screwdriver and it moved a bit each time. Just be very careful they are crumbly and probably pretty easy to ruin.

Just installed the TubroXS Catback+midpipe with the help of a friend. The hardest part was removing the 3 nuts bolting the midpipe to the headerback pipe. Also the easiest way to remove the rubber hangers is WD40 and a crowbar, they should slide back on easilly. It's pretty simple really, though I highly suggest you take your car to a DIY shop with hydraulic jacks on both sides of the car. Bring a friend cause many times you'll need team work to hold something up while the other person secures it in place.

Racing Beat's website is slightly cheaper and direct from the manufacturer. I have the RB dual rez midpipe and the RB catback. They sound great together!

Jack of the front for the front 3 bolts and the middle for the rear 2 bolts. PB blaster and a breaker bar are a must (if you don't have impact tools available). Shouldnt be too hard. Took me a while my first time, now I can pop out the midpipe in about an hour or less.

Great writeup! Did this yesterday with bhr midpipe on my 06 shinka with 65k. Came with all bolts, nuts, springs, gaskets. Had to reuse stock springs cuz the included springs were shorter and thinner. No real surprises thanks to this diy.
I put the front on ramps, then jacked up one rear corner on stands for clearance.
The o2 sensor guard nuts were 9mm for me - rounded one with a 10mm socket, so took the other one off with a 9mm and bent it out of the way.
Needed 3" extension or deep socket for the 1/2" ratchet for better clearance and leverage.

Impressions after 1day, combined with amsoil saber pro premix in fuel 256:1
- significant increase in power and smoothness. Not in terms of max figures, but all around increase, smoother power band, especially low rpm drivability.
- sound - car is stock except bhr ignition and midpipe. Little more bass in exhaust tone, throatier at WOT, louder rotary noise when revving, some crackling/popping noise in between revs.
- smell - as expected from catless car. Although it seems worse compared to the catless wrx I had.
Overall very pleased so far. Mpg, after half tank, looks improved.
CEL turned on within 3 starts / 60 miles.
Debate: sell the cat and get AP hmmmmm~

Doubt you'll get enough for your cat to buy a Cobb... but definitely buy the Cobb. No brainer!

Yeah I'd be getting the tune too, so definitely will have to add funds. Moreover, I'd need the cat to pass inspections, but with the ap, I can just pay a shop to do it since no CEL, right? As long as no one visually checks for cat or sniff tests, which private shops do not care for, I should be ok?

Just installed my racing beat double resonated midpipe, and I like it. Some tips:

-You'll want some nuts, since it includes everything except nuts. Using the old ones would be a bad move.
2x M10 1.25 thread hex nut
3x M10 1.5 thread hex nut
2x M10 washers (to fasten against the springs)
-Make sure the gasket at the rear attachment is centered on the pipe. I had an exhaust leak until I fixed that.

Impressions:
It's a great piece. I'm not sure why you'd buy the BHR pipe when this is cheaper and has fantastic quality/fitment. Sound wise, it's BARELY louder than stock. Your acquaintances won't be able to tell anything changed. It is a bit throatier in the mid-high end, and makes a distinct puff sound on shifts if you get mixture igniting in the pipe. I'm running it with the stock cat-back.

PS: And I picked up about 10-15 scientific pants horsepower. I also changed my spark plugs at the same time, and the old cat had 115k on it, with no apparent problems with the car before the install.

What's up guys, i recently bought a install a racing beat dual resonated midpipe with a borla catback exhaust, the performance and sound its amazing along with the fun to watch flames at night! My question is, i been driving the car for maybe 160 miles and still no check engine light. I have a 2004 stock ecu with no accesport or nothing.. Is it normal for 2004 to not throw a CEL?

Its normal and seems to be random. When I installed my Agency power MP I never got a CEL. I passed NYS inspection 2 years in a row catless.

I have a Cobb now so I never had or never will have a problem passing OBD. But its not unusual to never get a CEL on the early 04s.
