I have the racingbeat exhaust and intake with the stock cat, and I like it but its a bit quite, I was just wondering how much louder it would be with the rb cat. I am not looking for anything loud and obnoxious, just something that would turn heads and get some attention.

Did mine today
Thanks for the info
Added a few info from my experience
Only installed AP Agency Midpipe cause I had already installed A Racing Beat Rev 8 Exhaust last year.

I raised it on a lift

Liberally spray all the nuts you will be removing with WD40 or PB Blaster type solution.
Sprayed all 3 nuts a few times waiting about an hour or 2 total time. Gave the cat time to cool so I would not get burned.

Using a Breaker bar remove the 14mm NUTS (facing the engine) on the manifold flange NOT the bolts. The bolt heads do not turn! These nuts are the items most likely to cause problems, if they strip good thing you bought the nut removal tool.

Used a open on one end and box on the other end 14mm wrench.
Did not have a breaker bar so used a bigger box wrench as a breaker bar.
Used the box end of the bigger wrench as the breaker part on the open end of the 14mm wrench

Had to hammer the bolts off the front end after cat was on the ground. Careful not to mess up the threads. (put old nut on bolt ..even and then hammered it out...did on all 3)

Reused the bolts cause I did not have new ones or else would have used new ones

Installed/used 3 stainless steel M10x1.50 nuts in front.

With a 10MM socket remove the two rusty nuts holding the cover for the O2 sensor, remove that cover and set it aside it will not be needed. Midpipe does not have anything to hold that cover so it is not used.

Unplug the O2 sensor from its connector and CAREFULLY remove it with either the sensor removal tool or a 22mm box end wrench.

Used sensor removal tool to remove O2 sensor from CAT and UNPLUGed clip from other end so to unscrew sensor from CAT.

With a 17mm socket remove the nuts that are on top of the springs connecting the rear flange to the rest of the exhaust system. The nuts on the other side are welded to the CAT flange and do not come off. If the whole bolt comes out along with the spring & nut its OK. The springs will be reused as can the nuts if they are in good shape.

Midpipe had bolt welded on passenger side on rear.
Removed both nuts from OEM CAT but the whole bolt came out along with the spring and nut on drivers side and on the passenger side the nut and spring came out. Used both since its a weird shape and most likely could not buy at hardware store, Used 13mm box wrench or was it 14mm but not 17mm

Spray the rubber hanger near this flange with some form of lubricant and with either a large screwdriver or tool designed for the job remove the CAT from that hanger.

You might have to pry the manifold flange apart, I didn't have to. Remove the front of the CAT by pushing its towards the rear of the car. Once the front section is off the rear comes apart easily.

The Installation is just the reverse, do not forget that anti-seize on all the nuts and O2 sensor. When you start the car for the first time the Midpipe will stink something awful. That is normal for any new exhaust system part.

Hi guys. i just bought a test pipe ---> http://cgi.ebay.ca/OBX-Exhaust-Cat-D...#ht_1079wt_905

And was wondering if its the same process as the one showed in this thread, mine is more a straight pipe , and can you tell me more precise step on how to remove the O2 sensor and to put it back on the test pipe.

TY

and I think you are a fake. Everything I've seen you post has been this way. The 02 sensor unscrews. It doesn't get much simpler than that.

Hello Jean-christophe rozon! Welcome to rx8club.com! As you can see we have many very experienced and helpful users here. User J8635621 is correct, to remove the o2 sensor first remove from the harness above the cat then it screwss off from the catalytic.

I can tell by your recent posts that you are a terrible user, so I wish you luck with your quest in modding your 8!!!

This is going to be tough since you don't believe J8, but here are the steps again as outlined by the Rev. I will make them bold and large so they are easier to read.

1. Unplug O2 sensor from harness.
2. Unscrew O2 sensor from pipe.

It really is that easy. The only thing to be careful of is to not bust the wires or the sensor itself. If you unplug it first and have dexterity greater than an ape with a pipe wrench locked in a china shop, you'll be fine.

I think it may be in your best interest to read before posting, especially if you're going to try to call out long standing, helpful, and knowledgeable members of this forum.

I know j8, i read all the thread, but i was just a bit skeptical about easy it was, never played with exhaust, and i will begin this Friday when i will receive my test pipe then i will buy my Cobb access port.

I just don't fully understand English like you guys do, its not my main language. So i was skeptical on how easy it would be.
I just wish to find a French forum, since im not welcome in this one, because i dont speak and understand all things.

I tackled this midpipe install yesterday... It did not go well. I bought a used Agency Power dual resonated midpipe from a local seller. Raised up my 04 and began liquid wrenching all the cat bolts. In the end and after much adieu I got the factory cat off. My question to you all is how many of the OE bolts were you able to re-use? Does the RB midpipe come with replacement bolts or did you have to buy them? The front 3 bolts have to be hammered out and the nuts were shot during removal but I was able to find suitable replacements from Home Depot. The 2 unique spring bolts threaded on both ends is a different story. I was unable to find a bolt long enough to replace them so while trying to remove the OE bolts I got one side out but the other cant be removed because the exhaust hanger is welded right near the nut and I can't get a socket on it to remove it and there is a small lip partially covering the nut so I can't get to it with a regular wrench. Mazda can't order those bolts because they are considered part of the catalytic convertor. Any help on where and what bolts to use?

Yeah I had the same exact problem. I managed to reuse the bolts by taking the bolt off, and getting as thin of a nut as you can to hold the bolt on like the factory welded nut does on the stock pipe. I will eventually try to just find a bolt thats long enough to replace it but thats what I had to do.

You can get those HERE I am not sure if they come with the springs but you should have been able to salvage those at least.

You guys do realize that the nuts on the hanger side are to be welded onto the exhaust and that the shoulder bolt is actually removed from the bolt side...right? And the front three bolts that you hammered out of the OEM cat are not supposed to come out at all...right?

I removed the front three and reused them with no problems. Then again mine where not that rusted and came off rather easily. Yes the rear nut on the midpipe side is welded. I simply reused the same bolt that you can unscrew and found a new nut that would fit and hold the bolt in place.
