Great procedure.

But just a word of warning: It's like with any good medicine: Keep the dose low. Inject only as much as to create a fluid film to restore compression. If you inject too much, you risk to hydroshock the engine.

I'd like an emergency kit instead, with a DVD showing how its properly done, all packaged in a "Mazda" nylon bag, with a price of not more than $25. The DVD should show an actual vehicle being deflooded, cause I'm dying to see what the smoke everyone says the car puts off. My vehicle goes out of warranty 11/03/07; you have until then.

^^ Haha....well, next time it floods, which I'm sure it will, I'll be sure to make a video of it. All I can say is that man....it smokes! When the dealer did it, it smoked up the entire dealership....mechanic bays and showroom :D and when we did it, despite closing off the doors, it smoked up the entire shop, front and back. So yeah...it gets smokey. Hmm....if I make up the kits, I try and sell 'em around $100, which would of course be 1/3 the cost of the Mazdaspeed version! haha!

Like Q-chan said, don't inject a lot, you just want a little bit, as little as possible actually, which is why I mentioned, use extremely quick bursts.

As for the warranty, my dealership didn't have a problem with this....I got the idea when I learned that the mechanic performed a version of this procedure upon my first flooding.

As for the longevity of the hoses, I don't see a problem, at least for the hose I got. It was really thick and should stand up to the heat without a problem, and the platic T-joint...well, again, I got that from the dealership. They knew what it was for and that's the piece they gave me...so I'm not too worried.

So your saying your Dealership "approved" of this method to deflood?

If they really did that I would have no problem setting it up in my car right when I get it.

I think if we have the opportunity...
We should compile a list of what washer fluids work for this mod...In the mean time ill be using the genuine Mazda fluid till we find some cheaper substitute.

^^ Yes, my dealer informed me of this process in the first place. The mechanic there has used this method to clean out many floods. THey informed me of this, knowing my ability to DIY. I did, however, specify, from the beginning, that this is NOT an official fix from Mazda. That doesn't mean they'll look down upon it, or void a warranty, that simply means, Mazda did not offically tell me this is a solution. The tech did, however, tell me he learned this from other Mazda techs. So take it for what its worth!

Alright I figured it out...Get an extra hose so that when i take the car in for some other problem i put it back to its original configuration .

Sorry, but I can't see pumping washer fluid into the combustion chamber. A simple system to pump a few cc's of oil into the rotors, ala the "No Start" TSB, would make more sense to me. Just my opinion.

^^^ Hey...look....I honestly don't care what you end up doing. I'm simply telling you a system that is proven to work. Not just proven by me, but proven by techs. I didn't come up with the idea of using washer fluid, the techs did. It works for them, and it works for me, that's all I care about. My method: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). This was a quick mechanism to put in place, and its very effective. Why do I need something more elaborate? To each their own, I guess.

Well, "techs" are not God and the things they do to a vehicle are not always in the best long term interests of the owners. Think expediency, better known as: Get 'um out the door.

I guess I don't understand the problem with injecting a small amout of water into the engine either for deflooding or for cleaning the engine would cause. I know that many people used water injection systems on cars to help cut down on detonation for years. I'm not sure that windshield washer fluid is the best choice. Is there anyone who can tell us what the best fluid combination might be. I think it would rally be interestin to make a more permanent system using metal tubing , a metal resovoir
and a small pump. I just would like to knoe what kind of liquid would be best-distilled water-water/alcohol etc. Also what would be a reasonable amount for a shot. The resevoirs I am thinking of only hold a few ozs.

Has anyone done this besides Devoid? I'm interested in doing this once a month or so to clean the rotors. Guitarjunkie showed some pictures of the porting job he did and the guy's rotors were real dirty after a short time......

I just did this mod today. Took me a whold 10 minutes once I got started. The only mistake I made was I after I squirted the washer fluid in the maintenance ports, I forgot to turn the valves back to the normal position. The engine stalled. However I got it back running and I never saw any smoke

Devoid, do you have any idea why there was no smoke?

Good day Devoid, one question How many cc of washer fluid would you inject with a sirynge in each chambers. did you check the amount of fluid coming out of the disconnected washer hose!!! how many cc. Very good DIY. Thank you

Was you're car flooded at the time you sprayed the fluid in the engine? If not...than I'd imagine that's why. The intense smoke is from the excess oil that is getting dumped out the exhaust system.

As for how many cc....I just wing it and go with what works. 2 VERY quick bursts on the washer fluid stick (quick enough that they don't set off the wipers) and that is what has worked. I guess in my opinion, if it defloods, does it matter if it wasn't "enough" or was more than "enough" cc's....

Oh...and be sure to close the valve after squirting, and before starting!

My car wasn't flooded at the time so that makes sense. There was a little smoke when I tried it again later in the day.

Do you think it's a good idea to use this once in a while to help keep the rotors clean? That's the real reason I tried this.

I live on top of a big hill, if my car ever got flooded, could I push the car down the hill and pop the clutch in 2nd gear at about 20mph? Wounld't that spin the rotors fast enough to deflood the engine?

It might, but if it doesn't you'll end up at the bottom of the hill, perhaps with no decent place to park the car. Better to fully charge the battery before trying a de-flood procedure. Or better yet, get a more capable battery just in case you do flood the car. Lots of threads on the various replacement battery options, so do a search and read them.

My DYI look at the manual. find mazda roaside service. tell the lady to come pick it up ,flatbed only. get someone to take you to the dealership when done. that is what I did, kinda complicated but it worked.

Standard feature.....

I guess you guys are too young to remember the RX-3....it had the "Cold Start Assist System" standard.

A washer pump and its own reservoir, but it was filled with ANTIFREEZE!

When it got real cold (as it tends to do here) a little orange light under the dash would illuminate, you push for three seconds, and it squirted the antifreeze in the manifold, to "increase compression".

...and the smoke was incredible!

So your saying the RX-3 had a system similar to what we are doing here...
