FL Thanks OP

Thanks! I thought i was going to have to deflood on the hook to the dealer. I had tried the procedure but was not persisent enough. One thing that differed for me was that while clearing with both pumps disconnected I could actually tell when the fuel was cleared by some partial combustion "jumps" and then it fell like it was turning easier. Also when I reconnected the fuel pump and started it, it didn't turn over so I feathered the gas and it came to life like and old snowmobile (smoke and all). Thanks again!

Big Thanks!

Once again this website has saved me major $ and you guys are awesome for taking the time to post these fixes. My car was flooded - followed all the steps and with the help of the starter fluid shot into the carb it fired up and finally cleared all the fuel. Runs like a champ now. Thank you!

ok guys so here is my situation..

car stopped turning on about 2 weeks ago.. very sad

needed to replace my coils i new it because ive had this problem before.. 04 with now 109k on it..

so today replaced the coils.. all for.. i have RB 8mm Racing wires n fairly new spark plugs.. so after replacing my coils i cranked and it wouldnt turn over.. tried the method provided in this thread n just my luck.. nothing..

so i knew i was flooded n last time i was flooded i just took out all the spark plugs n sanded away all the gunk n cleand them real good n there it went started right up!!

well did the same thing this time.. n no luck.. well after a couple times using the method here it started to turn over a bit. it turned on for about 1 sec.. i got so excited to almost hear my exhaust.. lol well tried a couple more times n it seemed very promising this times... i was using carb choke in my throttle body to help which almost did.. tried this only cuz i didnt have any starter fluid.. anyways.. so after 12 hrs of trying.. im stuck...

any other options or some word of advice.. please and thank yu in advance

Well, after changing the battery, the car still wouldn't start, and I knew it was flooded. So I had my car towed to the dealer, and they were very forthcoming about the issue, and even did a power recall repair, all covered under warranty. Mind you, I recently moved out east, and serviced my car regularly at a previous dealer who never did the work. I consider this past week a blessing. Bright Bay Mazda is the ****. Wantagh Mazda are a bunch of clowns.

another little tip I have found effective with a hot engine if it does not start the first try .

*Push throttle to floor (to stop fuel flow)
*wind over 4-5 secs then release throttle while engine is still turning over
works a treat for me

Is there any advantage of disconnecting the fuel pump harness, instead of just removing the fuel pump fuse? And if so, where exactly is this to disconnect?
Thanks

The fuse should do the same thing & is a lot easier I would imagine (never tried to disconnect the pump itself) since the fuse is right there in front of you

This is yet another reason why i <3 alfy.

Thanks for this DIY. I flooded my car this past weekend and Renesis se3p found this thread n' pulled the fuse. Car was up n' running within 20 minutes of beginning the DIY. Would've been sooner had a gased it at the right time the first time
