well the blade profile would have to match (be compatible) between both cars and the odds of that are small. but you very likely could program the transponder code into the rx-8.

No idea. Try again. It worked for me, and if not bring it to the dealer. They still should not charge you.

JDM - has something to do with it?

hi takashi,
i ve just called them and they told me that the ECU is locked and they should first unlock it there and then follow this process.
they will charge me $70 for just programming, no cut no key.
but anyway they sell this key for $350 (ripoff) so for Cyprus standards, its still very cheap. I ve bought it for $60 shipped. lets see in 5 hours, i will keep you updated.

ok, i brought the remote and they programmed it succesfully but the KEY is still not working. They told me that the ve faced problems with US-Spec keys and J-Spec cars. They will charge me $115 for programming of remote + new key, cut and programming.

I can get it from japanparts for $80 but i will still have to pay them for programming $70 which is $150. I guess i ll have to pay them $115.

P.S. I ve seen them doing something with an OBD tool so i guess they did lie about unlocking ECU's immobilizer for key registration procedure.

ok, i went to the dealer today to receive my new key and its working now

for all JDM owners: our ecu is locked and we are not allowed to program more keys unless they unlock the ecu from the dealer. i can program keys now but not the US-Spec keys. US-Spec remote works perfectly.

All,

Just wanted to share this little jem of how I got a cool new key for my 04 RX for 20.00!!! I bought a USED remote with Key on Ebay from someone who had an extra, then I used a lockout key that was with my car when I bought it to MAKE a key that worked in the ignition.

Here are pictures:

I bought the remote and removed the pin holding the (not mine) key from the fob.

I then took the lockout key (key that works in a doorlock, but not in the ignition, cause there is no chip in it) I taped it to the (not my car) key and I drilled a hole in it for the pin I took out and I cut the end you normally hold on to to match the one I removed(not my car).

I then replaced the key (my lockout key) into the key fob (the cool flip one), put the pin back in, followed the instructions on programming the remote and the extra key that are EVERYWHERE on the forum and VIOLA!!!!!

for 20.00 and about an hour of my time from old key to new cool one, I have a new RX8 cool flip key.

More pics

More pics of the project.

There is a slight brass color at the base of the key where I did some cutting, but it is not noticable unless you stare at the thing and it was WAAAAAY cheaper than the hundreds of $$ people have been paying for this key.

Hope this helps some folks. I did all this with a table vice, some duct tape and a dremmel tool....

It is a button(w/ Trunk Pic) right beside to caution - Red Button

Just press and hold it for about 1-2 secs to open it.

To close, you gotta close the trunk manually - Hand

very strange ,Mine does not have the trunk button. it has a bigger panic button that takes up the space of the trunk button-comparing to the one posted 4 post up.
thanks for the reply

Hum............that's weird.

Hey, yours might be either Miata or SUV Remote.............

Double Check............Because all 8's remotes have a trunk button with picture.

I just learn that there are two different switch blade remote out there, 4 buttons and 3button. I can't take pic right now but both can be seen on ebay.

Was able to program my key and remote on the switchblade with only 2 other keys (no existing remote.)
Just wanted to chime in that you do not need to have an existing remote to program a new one (as that does not seem to be the general opinion in this thread.)

06 Shinka, smart key, ie credit card type
So how do I get a new smart key?
Smart key includes a regular key.
I go to ebay, buy a smart key and program it how?
The normal key, can I just have it cut at WalMart?
TIA

The smart keyless entry system needs to be programmed by the dealership's service department.

And I wouldn't recommend getting the key cut at Walmart. They did a really bad job on mine.

It really depends who in Walmart cut your key.

Jeremy Clarkson's favourite saying, "how hard can it be?"

At the Walmart I went to their key cutting machine was pretty much completely automated. The guy slid the key into a couple slots to figure out which setting to use, put the new and old keys all the way into 2 slots, clamped them down, lowered the safety shield and pressed the go button.
Seems like a monkey could do it. On the flip side, it's unlikely the best cutter in the world could do it well.

you have to take it to the dealer if you are trying to get a smart key(credit card) the physical key work because you have the card in the car, won't work without card being in car. You have to access the PATS function in the cars pcm. Even then you have to log into mazda to get the IN CODE to gain access. Better have your mazda dealer do it and supply the key too.
