#377
sounds good, i've been reading over the procedure and wasn't sure about the 04 key being able to be used after switching over the the 05+ switchblades
i guess i just have to go to the dealer to get robbed for a key reprogram

So i just recently bought an 04 used from someone, and they only gave me 1 key and 1 remote
i've been wanting to switch out to the switchblade one and in order for me to do so I would have to go to the dealer to get it reprogrammed with their machine
my question is, could i go buy another switch blade after that and reprogram the new 3rd switchblade using the mazda newly reprogrammed key and my old 04 key?
i've been hearing that the ecu picks up a different frequency and all that stuff
all the mazda dealerships around here in canada charge 50$ to program a key and 50$ to program the fob which is disgusting

Hello,
When I bought my Mazda RX8 (2005) the dealer gave me only one key (excluding the remote fob) and the spare key got lost by courier/post
Now I have a remote from a 2004 mazda RX8. Will I be able to re program in to my car?
Pleae advise
Kind Regards

just coded my own 05 key thanks guys. the transmitter was the hardest part but ill give good instructions right here.
1 sit in car
2 open driver door
3 put the key in move it
to lock to on
to lock to on
to lock to on
theres a small button in the door jam with a rubber stopper on it press it 3 times
now check that the door buttons still work and lock and unlock the doors.
then press any button on your key fob twice. now be patient cuz it takes like 5 seconds for it to first work.
MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS ALL QUICKLY!!!! 30 secs and under.

The instructions for programming a remote FOB works perfectly for a 2004.

If you have a different year car, then buy your respective key, and also buy the respective remote if you want the remote.
Now to program them: For the actual key, you will have to go to a special locksmith or to Mazda. The locksmith you go to will need to be able to program transponder keys. You might be able to find one that will do it for $75 or $50. Mazda will charge over $100.
To program the remote, just follow the instructions for programming the remote in the first post of the thread, that will work!

I have 2 remotes but none work. I have replaced the battery but neither of them work. I tried to program but I guess I need one working remote. Is this correct? Is there any way to reprogram them to the car? I have checked everything and the remotes are getting power so the only think I can think of is they lost their ID but this makes not sense.

You do not need a working remote to program another remote. Just either 1 or 2 keys (I forget which, it's in the procedure in the OP.) I think I have heard of remotes just stopping working though, so you may not have any luck there.

Stuck in a love triangle
My final 04 remote went bad last week (that was my third one)..and replacing the battery didn't fix it.. so I finally broke down and bought one of these coveted flip key remotes after 8 years of using the regular 04 ones. Cost about 50 bucks shipped (eBay)...and programming the new remote was effortless. Just have to get the key cut somewhere tomorrow.
By the way, I hope the paint on the lock/unlock button on these remotes doesn't fade as quickly as the paint on the old remotes did. That was something that really annoyed me about the old ones.

Stuck in a love triangle
Hey I've got a question about programming the new key (not the remote) and I read through every page on this thread and noticed this was never asked after 7 years which is surprising.
I've got two old keys to my 8 plus this new one, but I haven't been able to find one of the 2 old keys. Probably in the garage somewhere or something. When performing the new key programming procedure, do I actually need both keys to be present in order to program the new key, or can I do it with just one of the old ones?

- Go to the dealer, purchase a new key/remote combo, and have them cut/program it.
- Go to the dealer, purchase a new key/remote combo, have them cut/program the key, and then program the remote yourself (if they want to charge you for programming the remote)
- Go to the dealer, purchase a new key/remote, then find a locksmith that can "program a transponder key for a 2004 Mazda RX8", and have them cut/program the key. Then program the remote yourself.
- Go online, purchase a new key/remote (cheaper), then find a locksmith (just like the step above)

Just went to the dealer and they couldn't program any remotes.
I came back from my deployment and my car hadn't been started at all (wife doesn't love me), so it completely died. Ever since then the remotes haven't worked. The anti-theft system still works and the horn goes off if someone tries to open the door when it is locked. The red blinking key light blinks normally. I can get it into programming mode, but once you need to click the button on the remote, nothing happens. I tried it about 100 times and gave up on it and figured I just needed to get the dealer to do it. He tried it and did exactly what I was doing, which would have pissed me off if he had the "magic touch" or something. They're saying it is electrical issues or something, so I have to take it back in to get it diagnosed for 100 bucks. Cost me $75 to have them tell me they couldn't program any remotes and get a key cut/programmed for "free."

Sorry if I'm asking a very noobish question... (on the bright side I'm not starting a redundant thread!)
I have a 2005 Rx8 with only one key (no remote, no service keys). I'm not too concerned with adding more keys, but I definitely want to add a remote. As far as I can tell from this thread, I only need:
1 key, no pre-existing remote to add a new remote[/B]
2 keys to add a new key
So if I just buy a 05 rx8 remote from ebay, I should be able to program it using the steps mentioned in this thread using my single key?

I found these numbers on my Keyless Remote Controller Unit (below handglove box)
FE03 67 5DZ A
4A13C
Visteon 41872 43
May I know two things?
1) Can I use switchblade remote?
2) Which one should I get?
It's like this here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05...Q5fAccessories
And obviously I can't determine which IC that it's compatible with. Any clue?
