I don't know exactly how the Wolf will pan out with Chris, but I don't think it'll be a true stand-alone. I'd be 99% sure the stock ECU will have to be retained because it controls SO much stuff. But technically it'll be a stand-alone engine management computer, in that it will replace the stock ECU signals for fuel and ignition, not modify them. One for a full race application can you eliminate the stock ECU on the 8 at this time.

Chris probably knows more than I, but I'm pretty sure there are some functions the stock ECU will still be controlling.

Ok, Ok.

Here's what it does. It is placed in serial with the ECU. It is on the back end, not the front.

It receives all the signals and passes them all on except those that control what Wolf wants to control. Like air fuel and timing ect...

Signals comes in many forms like, voltage, software, wave length, timing ( how fast it moves ect...)

Then the programers hack the signals until they break the software code. Each code is in 0,and 1's and in thousands of cominations.

Once you know which signal controls what and what the sequence is ect... Then you re-program the same signal but only modifed to tell the engine what you want to do.

Much better than Canzoomer alteration of a voltage signal.

Every signal is just a pin-out from the harness ... you either tap into that pin with your own Wolf signal, or let the stock ECU continue on that pin unmolested.

WTF? Sorry, that made no sense to me.

My question was really this: If the stock ECU is being retained, but the Wolf is completely controlling the engine managment side of things rather than simply faking out the stock ECU into doing what it wants, how does it make sure the stock ECU doens't freak out when, for instance, the O2 sensor shows something unexpected based on what the ECU is trying to do to the fuel delivery? That's just an example of course, but there are many things that the stock ECU could see as being out of the ordinary and try to correct unsuccessfully. Just trying to figure out how a "stand-alone-that-doesn't-stand-alone" would handle that....

I'm all over this...I live in Lodi, about 45 minutes south, and he can have my car for a while if he would like. I just left him a message, hopefully I can get in contact with him.

It would be nice if they would provide some kind of loaner car; but if not I believe I will have access to another car.

Pin outs and pin ins work the same way.
All the wolf ECU is is basically an abstraction layer between the engine computer and the engine itself. Everything that plugs into the ECU from the engine (sensors too) now plug into the wolf device. The wolf then plugs into the ECU and tells it everything is OK.

It looks like this:

Engine/Sensors <--> Wolf <--> ECU

He sits in the middle and intercepts signals from both sides. That way you dont have to hack the ECU, you hack the signals instead.

Thanks for the update!
