im lookin to buy a 20b tt and i know a little about it, but nobody seems to be able to tell me if itll work with the stock 6 speed transmission, if anyone out there has any info please share.

I doubt anyone has tried it . The stock trans is not a strong one .
That said I'm making some reasonable power and have no complaints - so far .

When you say you know little about the 20bTT how little? How much work were you planing on doing yourself?

the whole installation thing scares me, this would be my first big project. i work with this guy, hes been a tech for 27 years so i told him about my idea and hes willing to help me out with whatever i need help with.

mike, do you REALLY know what youre getting into??? you do understand that this IS NOT a direct swap, time, money and LOTS of fabrication will be needed to pull this off....if it was a direct swap a lot of us would have done this already

Mike- your looking at about $5000-8000 for the engine alone- used or rebuilt. And your looking at another $15000 for time/labor/fabrication/tranny/etc.

And by the way, most people who run 20bs, run RX7 FD 5 speed trannies, so....Your choice should be the same as theirs....not a 6spd. Search for AngelJoeV he has a 2004 Winning Blue 8 with a 20b swap+ bigger aftermarket turbo. He also has Youtube videos, so search for them. Good luck!

i no nothing about the transmission myself, i just go by what my mechanic tells me.. he's going to try about 700hp in the near future to see if the tranny holds up. He tells me the rx8 tranny is bullet proof. I've heard people say other wise. He even told me that another guy in San Antoniio has a 3-rotor with the 4speed auto shiftronic tranny running about 450 WHP.. all i can say is dayum!! Im suppose to get my new slotted and drilled brake rotors put on by him.. when i get a chance to goto San Anotonio I'll ask more questions. Ill even try to take a ride in his car. Last time he had it taken apart to work on something.

The answer to the original quiestion is YES. The tranny will fit the 20B. It wont HOLD its torque but it will fit. Trust me, I know....

ouch. well tito has had more torque than him for 2 years and his tranny is still good...i guess in generally it cant handle that torque. just a few lucky bastards hanging around. well damn thats sucks. so whats the next step.. what can be done to make the tranny stronger?? This is making me very interested in a 3 rotor.

I would say my car has around 550 to 600 lbft torque. That time we went to the dyno and couldn't get the car over 5000 rpm ( timing problems, solved but couldnt get back on dyno) We did 349 at 10 pounds of boost at around 4800 rpm. and Im going to shoot for at least 20 pounds of boost. So think about it, at 4800 the 3 rotor is bearly starting to make power. My car revs up to 10k like nothing now. Not that it will make power all the way on the rev band but it should make a difference.

Did u get the 5spd fd tranny or did u use the stock 6speed? and 550+ torq??!?!?!??!!? WOW..

I went through a couple of rx8 stock trannies. As long as you stay with street tires, be very carefull with 2nd gear and stay below 8 pounds of boost ( BOOOORRRRIIIINNNGGGGGG), it should be fine. all I broke was 2nd gears. STAY AWAY of drag radials.. I used them and the tranny went in about an hour..... counting the time it took to get the tires on... hahaha
PLEASE take into consideration that I love acceleration and I drive my car HARD... If you baby your car then it will last forever, But who wants to go through all this for that...

Check locally.. I can get them here for around 3500.. If you can't find one locally then you can go that route.
