Pretty much no progress here, been too damn busy with work crap. Project #1 was to get a OMP stepper position vrs oil flow curve. I see the OMP drive runs at 1/2 engine RPM and I think I should have a DC motor somewhere here to drive it a somewhere around 1800-2000 rpm and make some kind of test stand. I'll make an attempt to get done this week. One thing you can do while waiting for the shop to thaw out is figure out how we are going add the code for the stepper controller in the megasquirt firmware.

Hope the guy that was going to get stepper postion while driving his 8 is still interested.

Is there a better place to continue this discussion being the RX-8ers have better solutions this is only really just of interest for Renisis installs in other places? Perhaps move to a megasquirt wiki somewhere?

Since I am going to use a 1st gen RX-7 front cover on the Renesis along with a 2nd gen crank angle sensor, I am also going to be using the mechanical oil metering pump from the earlier RX-7's and actuate it just like they did off of the throttlebody. I'm going to use a Mustang throttlebody and a bicycle brake cable for the connection. Problem solved.

The old mechanical OMP is not a bolt on to the Renesis castings so you are still going to have to build a adapter plate with a drive shaft in it like Richard Sohn builds for injecting two stroke. The adapter plate messes up the stock oil lines that run from the OMP so they need to be dealt with too. So as far as I can tell it's not exactly an afternoon job either way. Once we got the code wirtten for mega squirt at least for eveyone else it's just a wiring task.

The omp doen't bolt on to any engine parts. It bolts onto the front cover. I'm using a 1st gen front cover. Building oil metering lines is simple.

Yeah, sorry it registered in my brain you said you were going to use 1 st gen front cover that about 30 seconds after replying - Yes, your plan seems sane and the least amount of work, just so 70's .

It's 80's not 70's! Sometimes simplest is best. Especially in my case.

Well I feel a little stupid for missing this thread till recently, but I think it would be a good place to post my project... Currently I'm waiting for a Cobb AP which will be waiting for me when I get home from this HELL HOLE (*Afghanistan ^_^ *) so I can start learning the N/A maps and timing for the 6 port... Later this year (summer) I will begin the install of the MS3 with daughterboard and get it going, once my maps are complete (*or workable*) for that I will change over all of my fuel lines, pump, injectors and add a flex fuel sensor for some cheap 105 goodness >: ] I'm HOPING (*since I'm holding out on FI till the 16x comes out*) that the 16x will be a relatively easy swap with (*crosses fingers*) the same trigger wheel or one they have already worked on...

With all this planned only the top three will be completed soon: MS3, fuel system, Cobb..
When I do get the 16x I plan to prepare it for impending DOOOOOM before it ever sees an engine bay... so it'll sit around till thicker apex seals come out and someone comes up with a "decent" porting template, I pretty much want to do everything I can to it in order to make it more durable and have a longer lifespan with FI..

and no the goal isn't purely high power, I'm going for a functional streetable car with a similar or better lifetime then factory, but still boosted.

I'll try to only post on this thread as I make progress on this

I know this post is really old , but I'm planing to turbo my new motor and would love to use this as a plug and play setup. I have a ms unit on my rs turbo Capri (foxbody hatch turbo 2.3 like a svo)

I like useing it cause I know the tuneing software
Know more about it then c

Dose the new ms software work with the rx8 with the stock coils etc.

Wil it work with tunerstudio. I got it when I got the pimp unit(plug and play ms unit for ford ecus

I don't believe there's a MS - plug n play version for the RX-8, but it should be fairly straightforward with what RG described in this thread. The consensus though, is that most people don't feel it's worth it as there are easier ways to control fuel and spark since you have to keep the stock ecu to run other things anyway.

It wasn't long after we did this that other options appeared. I don't see the point of an MS on an RX-8 anymore. It was a fun project though.

I don't hang around here much anymore so I find it comforting to see that some things never change, Fred is still here. But his posts have become shorter.

the simple answer is to change to a 13B-REW for FI instead
