You should take it more as a commentary on how the intake market exists for the RX-8, not that it was directed at you. People buy it for sound, or for power, and really the intake isn't what's holding us back.

If that paragraph is true, is it safe to assume that to you the only worthwhile intakes so to speak would be the AEM and anything with a duct put onto it?
The issue with finding out real world gains with something like a CAI or the revi ram duct is that you cannot properly replicate airflow on the street while your car is on the dyno.

If it makes you feel good, then have fun with it. But really you're changing stuff around for the sake of changing stuff around. If we all quit buying random junk and saved up for real goodies with real gains, we'd all have much faster cars. Myself included

Point taken, I am going to be switching out for a 4.777 gear soon, hopefully that will be something worth while

It'll give you a little boost... .but it's a minor one.

I also tried out lightweight flywheel and underdriven pulleys. Both are so minor it could be a trick of the mind. Other people swear by it.

Personally, I don't think I can accurately judge gains unless it's +15 whp or more. And even then it's easy to be deceived if your car slowly loses power due to something like failing coils.

Anyway, don't take me as bashing you or the intake, I'm sure you're both great.

I was bitten by the mod bug more than once, and bought a ton of stuff including the full racing beat intake. It's a really nice intake and all, but for $400+ it's essentially changing out a working intake on the rx-8 to replace it with another similar intake that will function basically the same way!

I posted what a great intake it was on the forum, but in the end, it was just an intake and it didn't do anything for me other than some one on one time with my car for an hour.

Now of days I like to categorize mods in three ways - Longevity mods, useful mods, and faux mods.

Undriven pulley was something I also tinkered with, I'll probably be taking mine off and selling it at some point.

More so it's just frustrating that to this day it is very difficult to get a tangible gain from anything short of nitrous, turbo, or a supercharger. I have a flash, intake, air duct, exhaust, pulley, updated ignition coils plugs and wires yet the car still doesn't feel all that faster than stock RX-8s i get to drive. Should have just gotten a serious set of coilovers and sway bars and called it a day.

Now swaybars produce a decernable gain, and one you feel every time you turn!

My NA mod list would be: catless midpipe, accessport, and that's it. $1,000. Of course we all like sound and bling, but that's mods for your mind (and thus goes into the faux list).

AFE STS, swaybars, and sohn adapter also make it high on my recommendations.

Once your clutch goes, then lightweight flywheel, but it's not worth doing sooner than that.

20 whp is all you can usually get, so mods can be disappointing for this car without FI

An interesting observation with the Racing Beat duct ......

I recently fitted a boost controller but am not yet boosted . I did some high speed runs just to see if the duct got any positive pressure into my intake .
I was surprised to find I got 0.2 PSI of "boost" from the duct - I always thought it did something ...

Exactly what i was thinking when i bought it, i like the total package and want to keep it quiet, no offense to those with catbacks Im sure they make a few hp on the top end.Im de-walling and getting K&N drop-in.

Are you refering to the Cobb Accessport? Can this turn off the CEL from going w/ catless midpipe? Or is it cheaper to go w/ RP supercat (that is if you have to buy the rear o2 sensor trick box plus the price of a catless midpipe)?

Whats the AFE STS?

Im not sure of all this PSI talk about BOost and crap....only way to get more boost is TURBO or SUPErCHARGER....other than that....RAM DUCT from racing beat should pull more air...and give u back some on the engines power.

no, it's definitely quieter than the K&N. Keep in mind both streettunner and myself also run the HKS hi power exhaust... which definitely doesn't help the loudness cause.

My tube is black.

If you look under the front plate, you can see there is a little distance from the front of the intake to where the RB cold air duct opening is. The front of the intake is the blured area over the water tank.

Don't care what any of you think or say, this intake makes a difference on the low end.

May I suggest that the foam may just be packing material?

^After driving it for a full day now and having some fun with it I have to retract my previous statement and say that I agree with you.

so how exactly does this intake increase low end power over the other rx-8 intakes? I guess you can now take the turbo guys off the line, right? right?! lol

That little foam piece trims the fuel level, long term and short. As others refer to it as MAF trickery. Hence the mid-level and top end power increases.

Yes there is a large increase over stock intake.

The dyno will be posted soon.
